About the Company

At Torc, we have always believed that autonomous vehicle technology will transform how we travel, move freight, and do business.
A leader in autonomous driving since 2007, Torc has spent over a decade commercializing our solutions with experienced partners. Now a part of the Daimler family, we are focused solely on developing software for automated trucks to transform how the world moves freight.
Join us and catapult your career with the company that helped pioneer autonomous technology, and the first AV software company with the vision to partner directly with a truck manufacturer.

Meet the team:
Join the Platform Design & Build team, where engineering meets execution. This team is responsible for the low-volume prototype builds and physical integration of key systems and hardware into Torc’s autonomous vehicle platform. With a mix of skilled engineers and hands-on technicians, the team turns design concepts into physical reality and helps validate, test, and troubleshoot integration challenges across the vehicle.

We are currently seeking an Mechanical Engineer who thrives in a cross-functional environment and is passionate about both product development through requirements creation and hands on prototype builds and test. In this role, you’ll work in a team of mechanical and electrical engineers and with build technicians responsible for physical implementation and rapid prototyping.

What you’ll do:

Have a passion for designing and building real hardware in the world of autonomy. In this role, you'll work on the mechanical systems that enable advanced autonomous vehicle performance — from structural sensor mounts and cooling systems to enclosures, mechanisms, and test fixtures.

This is a hybrid role that combines hands-on engineering with systems-level responsibilities. You'll take concepts from early-stage prototyping through full vehicle integration, while also writing requirements, ensuring compliance, and collaborating across disciplines.

What you’ll need to succeed:

  • Design mechanical components for sensor integration, compute enclosures, thermal management, and structural assemblies.
  • Develop detailed 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks or equivalent tools.
  • Work closely with build technicians to prototype, iterate, and validate designs on physical vehicles.
  • Write and manage component- and system-level mechanical requirements in collaboration with systems engineers.
  • Support root cause analysis and hardware debugging during vehicle testing and validation.
  • Contribute to DFM/DFA, GD&T, material selection, and mechanical risk assessments (e.g., DFMEA).
  • Collaborate with electrical, systems, and software teams to ensure seamless mechanical-electrical integration.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • 6+ years of industry experience in mechanical design, preferably in automotive, robotics, or aerospace.
  • Proficiency in CAD (preferably SolidWorks) and experience with version-controlled design.
  • Strong hands-on experience building and testing hardware — you’re work well both at the desk and in the shop
  • Working knowledge of requirements development and systems engineering practices.
  • Familiarity with mechanical testing, vibration analysis, and thermal design is a plus.
