Agility Robotics is a pioneer. Our robot, Digit, is the first to be sold into workplaces across the globe. Our team is differentiated by its expertise in imagining, engineering, and delivering robots with advanced mobility, dexterity, intelligence, and efficiency -- robots specifically designed to work alongside people, in spaces built for people. Every day, we break through engineering challenges and invent new solutions and capabilities that will one day make robots commonplace and approachable. This work is our passion and our responsibility: our mission is to make businesses more productive and people’s lives more fulfilling.
About the Team
Our mechanical engineering team is agile and has grown rapidly, and we are looking for a talented engineering leader to join us remotely in the San Francisco Bay Area, or on-site at our Salem facility. We are responsible for delivering advanced and reliable designs that meet a complex set of requirements to our customers, including software developers, applications engineers, manufacturing engineers and ultimately to fleet deployment managers. We work as a group to develop new technologies, engineer new products, and refine/maintain existing designs. The team is composed of engineers from many backgrounds and levels of experience.
About The Role
We are currently designing the next generation of Digit for commercial scale. Highly reliable and robust designs are critical to successful deployment of our robots in large quantities. Digit works in demanding environments, performing highly repetitive and heavily loaded tasks. The Senior mechanical engineer will work closely with other mechanical engineers and cross functional teams to develop the mechanical structure of the robot. This role will own multiple mechanical and electro-mechanical parts and will be responsible for the design, prototyping, root cause analysis and DFx for those parts.
About the work
- Own the 3D and 2D design of mechanical parts and assemblies.
- Drive cross functional solutions to highly complex design challenges.
- Create and maintain high quality design documentation.
- Lead cross-functional design reviews.
- Own delivery of significant portions of the robot and robot peripherals.
- Drive the development of specifications, requirements, test methods and protocols through formal verification to ensure functionality, safety and efficacy of design.
- Mentor and coach more junior engineers.
About you
- Demonstrated experience in mechanism design, electronics packaging, and knowledge of various types of motors, encoders, sensors, power transmission, and drive-train-related components such as gears, splines, lead screws, linear guides, harmonic drive actuators, etc.
- Highly driven self starter that shows ownership and accountability in their work.
- 5+ years of 3D CAD experience.
- 5+ years of mechanical design experience.
- B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent, minimum requirement)
- Proven experience designing and building mechanisms and assemblies, ideally with a background in robotics
- Demonstrated experience in mechanical analysis including modeling tolerance stacks, static and dynamic analysis, FEA and thermal analysis
- Ability to be on-site at Agility’s design facility as needed (minimum 4 days per month if Bay Area based and as needed to support design activities, reviews, prototype testing, etc.)
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Robotics experience design experience
- Advanced degree in engineering or science or robotics
- Jira/Confluence experience
- PLM and PDM experience
- Creo experience
Benefits
- Competitive Compensation Package
- 100% Company Paid Disability, Life, Health, Dental & Vision Insurance (for AR employees)
- Employer Matched Retirement Plan
- Five Weeks of Paid Time Off Annually
- Paid Parental Leave
- Employee Referral Bonus Program
- Relocation Assistance (for certain roles)
- Stock Options (for certain roles)
- A culture that encourages flexible work schedules
