AutoStore – moving things forward.

The Role

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer specializing in simulation and analysis at AutoStore, you will make simulation a core part of how we design new hardware. You will use FEA and dynamic analysis to answer design questions early, guide trade-offs, and catch problems before they reach a prototype or the field. You will also contribute hands-on mechanical design in CAD and help the team take hardware from rapid prototypes through pilot builds to production.

You will join the New Product Development Innovation Team in Atlanta and work closely with the Engineering Tools and Services team and the global Mechanical Simulation Center of Excellence. Day to day, you will partner with mechanical designers, test engineers and project leads on robots, grids, bins and new products.

This is a great role for someone who wants their analysis to drive real design decisions, and to see that work running in more than 1,600 systems worldwide.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Plan and run structural, dynamic, fatigue and multibody simulations of AutoStore hardware, from components to full assemblies.
  • Work with design engineers from concept onward to turn design questions into the right analysis, and present clear recommendations.
  • Contribute to mechanical design in CAD: create and modify parts, assemblies and drawings, and update designs based on simulation results.
  • Support the team through rapid prototyping, pilot builds and production hardware, including design for manufacturability, tolerance and material decisions, supplier questions, build issues and compliance.
  • Mentor a new-graduate mechanical engineer on the team, guiding their design, analysis and prototyping work.
  • Validate models against lab and field test data, and state clearly how far the results can be trusted.
  • Support test planning so physical tests confirm and calibrate simulation results.
  • Run design studies, parameter sweeps and optimization to explore trade-offs in weight, cost, stiffness and durability.
  • Script and automate repetitive simulation workflows with the Engineering Tools and Services team.
  • Document methods, build reusable models, and share good simulation practice across R&D.

Key Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience applying mechanical simulation in product development, ideally for electromechanical or robotic products.
  • Hands-on expertise with FEA tools such as Ansys Mechanical, Abaqus, Simcenter or COMSOL Multiphysics, covering static, modal, dynamic and nonlinear analysis.
  • Experience with explicit dynamics or multibody tools such as LS-DYNA, MSC Adams or Simscape Multibody.
  • Strong grasp of solid mechanics, materials, fatigue and contact, and sound judgment on meshing, boundary conditions and model fidelity.
  • Experience correlating simulation with physical test data.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo or NX): building and modifying parts, assemblies and drawings, not only preparing geometry for analysis.
  • Experience taking designs to production, including design for manufacturability and assembly (DFM/DFA), GD&T and tolerance analysis, material and process selection, and product compliance and safety standards.
  • Clear communicator who can explain results and their uncertainty to engineers and non-specialists.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Python or MATLAB scripting to automate simulations and process results.
  • Thermal or CFD experience (e.g., Ansys Fluent or Icepak, Simcenter FloTHERM, STAR-CCM+).
  • Experience with design of experiments, sensitivity analysis or structural optimization.
  • Co-simulation experience (e.g., FMI/FMU) or familiarity with electrical, motor or RF simulation tools.
  • Experience with physics-based robotics simulators (e.g., NVIDIA Isaac Sim, Gazebo, MuJoCo), synthetic data generation or reinforcement learning environments.
  • Background in robotics, logistics automation or other high-cycle electromechanical systems.

What We Do

Welcome to AutoStore, where we make space and storage simpler! AutoStore™, founded in 1996, is a warehouse robot technology company that invented and continues to pioneer cube storage automation, the densest order-fulfillment solution in existence. Our focus is to marry software and hardware with human abilities to create the future of warehousing. The company is global, with over 950+ systems in 45 countries in a wide range of industries. All sales are distributed, designed, installed, and serviced by a network of qualified system integrators we call "partners". Figuring other industries could benefit from this new cube storage automation concept, Arrow Electronics acquired Hatteland Electronic in 2000. The funding enabled Hatteland Group to invest in AutoStore, and from that moment the commercialization period started. The mature and robust product called AutoStore was to become the backbone of the Hatteland Group and it was ready to conquer the world. In 2021, investment powerhouse SoftBank became an AutoStore shareholder following prior acquisitions by Thomas H. Lee Partners, L.P. and EQT Private Equity. Today, with more than 950 systems and 40,000 robots across 45 countries, AutoStore is poised to continue its aggressive global expansion.

Why Work With Us

AutoStore is positive, strong, and humble community. We started amongst neighbors in a small town in Norway. We believe to treat our neighbors with respect and care. We drive and cherish this community feeling, even as we grow beyond our original borders. Here we provide opportunity, growth, and flexibility to live our best lives!
