THE ROLE:
PETRONAS Canada is looking for a Senior Marketing Reporting Accountant to join our team in the Calgary office. Reporting to the Team Lead, Treasury and Revenue Accounting, the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and thoroughness of the financial reporting related to PETRONAS’s Marketing activities. This role will provide financial and accounting expertise and advice to support the marketing and hedging of PETRONAS’s natural gas and natural gas liquids production.Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Liaise with Marketing, Production Accounting, Financial Reporting, and other departments to ensure the smooth flow of information and proper tracking of marketing revenues, processing, and transportation costs while meeting tight monthly reporting deadlines
Perform accurate and timely accruals, invoicing, settlement, and booking of physical natural gas marketing transactions
Prepare monthly financial results for various commodities and report findings to the business unit’s senior leadership team and partner accounting teams
Analyze transportation and midstream commitments, utilization rates, and mitigation activities
Analyze and explain monthly budget/forecast and accrual price/volume variances to identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities for improvement
Prepare and analyze monthly revenue and account reconciliations
Work with Marketers, Risk Analysts, and third parties to ensure completeness and accuracy of transaction data
Respond to internal and external audit inquiries
Maintain desk procedures and identify opportunities for innovative process improvements and automation
Provide support and coverage for mid-office risk and reporting activities
Required Education, Experience and Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
10+ years of relevant experience in the energy marketing industry, preferably as a Marketing Accountant or in a similar role
Professional designation (CPA, CFA) strongly preferred
Strong Microsoft Excel skills and experience with Eka InSightCM or comparable ETRM systems (such as Allegro or OpenLink). Experience with SAP S/4HANA is considered an asset
Knowledge of Canadian natural gas markets
Excellent communication skills to support cross-functional collaboration
Detail-oriented with the ability to prioritize tasks and work effectively under tight deadlines
Motivated self-starter who performs well independently and within a team environment; able to adapt effectively to changing priorities
