Job Purpose

VulcanForms is seeking a Staff Manufacturing Systems Engineer to lead the development, optimization, and governance of manufacturing execution systems and production data infrastructure across the Consumer Technology business unit. As a recognized subject matter expert, this role is responsible for defining manufacturing system strategies, standards, and best practices that enable scalable, traceable, and repeatable production operations.

The Staff Manufacturing Systems Engineer provides technical leadership for New Product Introduction (NPI), manufacturing transfers, business process transformation, and digital manufacturing initiatives. This role leads cross-functional programs involving ERP, MES, PLM, and QMS systems and serves as the primary technical authority for manufacturing data structures, routing architectures, documentation standards, and manufacturing execution workflows.

The position partners closely with Engineering, Quality, Operations, Supply Chain, Planning, IT, and Product Management to ensure manufacturing systems support current business objectives while establishing scalable frameworks for future growth. This role may lead large cross-functional projects and mentor other engineers while driving standardization and continuous improvement across multiple manufacturing programs

Key Responsibilities

Manufacturing Systems Strategy & Technical Leadership

  • Serve as the technical authority for manufacturing execution systems, production data architecture, and manufacturing documentation standards.
  • Define and maintain enterprise-level standards for part numbering, BOM structures, routing methodologies, travelers, Methods of Manufacture (MoM), and manufacturing master data.
  • Lead development of scalable manufacturing system frameworks supporting NPI, production scaling, and operational excellence.
  • Establish best practices for traceability, genealogy, electronic device history records (eDHR), inspection data collection, and production record retention.
  • Drive harmonization of manufacturing processes and documentation standards across products and business units.

Cross-Functional Program Leadership

  • Lead complex cross-functional initiatives involving Engineering, Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, Planning, and IT.
  • Function as project lead for ERP, MES, PLM, and QMS implementations, integrations, upgrades, and business transformation efforts.
  • Guide manufacturing readiness activities for major product launches, transfers, and capacity expansion programs.
  • Facilitate executive and operational reviews regarding manufacturing systems readiness, risk mitigation, and implementation plans.
  • Identify systemic manufacturing execution risks and lead development of long-term corrective actions.

Manufacturing Data Governance

  • Establish governance processes for manufacturing master data, revision control, system ownership, and workflow management.
  • Oversee creation and maintenance of complex product structures, configurations, routings, and manufacturing workflows.
  • Define data quality metrics and audit processes to ensure system integrity and compliance.
  • Lead continuous improvement efforts focused on process automation, data accuracy, and manufacturing efficiency.

Digital Manufacturing & System Integration

  • Lead design and implementation of manufacturing system capabilities supporting automation, advanced traceability, quality management, and operational analytics.
  • Define business requirements for new system capabilities and evaluate technology solutions that improve manufacturing performance.
  • Partner with IT and software development teams to design and deploy system enhancements and integrations.
  • Provide technical leadership during validation, user acceptance testing (UAT), system verification, and deployment activities.

NPI & Operational Excellence

  • Lead manufacturing systems strategy for new product introductions from development through commercial production.
  • Ensure production documentation, routings, quality controls, data capture requirements, and workflows are fully defined before production release.
  • Guide root cause investigations involving manufacturing systems, data integrity, product genealogy, traceability, or process control failures.
  • Drive implementation of lessons learned and best practices across multiple programs.

Technical Mentorship

  • Coach and mentor Manufacturing Systems Engineers, Manufacturing Engineers, and related technical staff.
  • Review technical work products and provide guidance on manufacturing documentation, systems architecture, and data governance practices.
  • Support development of organizational capabilities in manufacturing systems, ERP/MES utilization, and digital manufacturing technologies.
  • Serve as a key advisor to leadership regarding manufacturing systems strategy and operational readiness.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, Information Systems, or related technical discipline.
  • 10+ years of experience in manufacturing systems, manufacturing engineering, NPI, industrial engineering, operations technology, or related disciplines.
  • Deep expertise in ERP, MES, PLM, QMS, and manufacturing execution processes.
  • Advanced understanding of BOMs, routings, item masters, configuration management, traceability, and manufacturing data governance.
  • Proven experience leading complex cross-functional projects and manufacturing system implementations.
  • Experience developing manufacturing execution frameworks, standards, and best practices.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and systems-thinking capabilities.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills across technical and operational functions.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Epicor ERP, MES, Siemens Opcenter, SAP, Oracle, or similar enterprise manufacturing platforms.
  • Experience in regulated manufacturing environments including medical devices, aerospace, defense, automotive, or advanced technology manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with FDA QSR, ISO 13485, AS9100, IATF 16949, or similar regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience with Industry 4.0, digital manufacturing, manufacturing analytics, and automation initiatives.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
