Senior Managing Counsel, Regulatory Affairs
Overview
Mastercard's Global Regulatory Team is looking for a Senior Managing Counsel to join its AP Regulatory team. This role will provide regulatory advice and guidance to various businesses and functions for markets in AP (including Southeast Asia, Greater China, Japan, and Korea); work closely with regulatory compliance professionals to meet compliance obligations and regulator requests; and will develop and execute regulatory strategy, including regulator engagements and advocacy efforts.
Key to the role is the ability to interpret the regulatory landscape as it pertains to Mastercard, communicate requirements to management and business and functional stakeholders, and guide the organization forward on regulatory obligations and requirements. The successful candidate will enjoy working on multiple fast-paced and impactful issues, and will have strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Role
In this position you will: • Apply a strong working knowledge of laws and regulatory themes to Mastercard's business or products in AP, such as laws and regulations relating to payments, financial market infrastructure, systemic importance (safety and soundness), critical infrastructure, cybersecurity and resilience, physical security, and operational resilience/risk.• Undertake detailed analysis of laws and regulations that apply, or could apply, to Mastercard's business or products in AP to enable business strategy, growth, and licensing considerations.• Provide, draft, and deliver regulatory advice and business-friendly explanations to management, business teams, and functional groups.• Work collaboratively and cross-functionally with business/product owners, government affairs, public policy, legal, compliance, risk, franchise, tech, and other stakeholder teams to navigate complex regulatory contexts relevant to Mastercard's business and minimize the impact of regulation on Mastercard.• Proactively identify, monitor, and manage regulatory changes using tracking and AI tools; coordinate with internal stakeholders to assess the impact of regulatory changes and support compliance implementation.• Be a team leader and people manager.• Manage outside counsel on relevant regulatory matters including reviewing and analyzing regulatory advice.• Contribute to the broader activities of the Regulatory Team under the supervision and direction of the Assistant General Counsel, Regulatory AP.• Work as part of a team under the leadership of the Assistant General Counsel, Regulatory AP, and the global leadership of Mastercard's Regulatory function.
All About You
• Graduate of an established and reputable university with a law degree.• Regulatory experience within the payments, fintech or financial services industry and/or an international law firm or regulator. • Experience managing regulatory supervision and regulatory advocacy.• Leadership skills with experience managing and leading a team, executive stakeholders and influencing stakeholders. • Ability to navigate diverse regulatory requirements to enable the introduction of products and/or services and the growth of business in an evolving environment. • Strong analytic capabilities and excellent written and oral communication skills.• Must demonstrate a proactive, time-sensitive, results-driven approach in carrying out all duties, obligations, and responsibilities.• Proven success in navigating a multinational organization and operating effectively within a diverse, multicultural organization.
