Job DescriptionVisa’s Technology Organization is a community of problem solvers and innovators reshaping the future of commerce. We operate the world’s most sophisticated processing networks capable of handling more than 65k secure transactions a second across 80M merchants, 15k Financial Institutions, and billions of everyday people. The Work itself:
Provide visionary leadership and mentorship for multiple high-performing software engineering teams across general and specialized functions, including frontend, backend, and full-stack.
Drive technical strategy, architecture, and execution for complex, large-scale systems and projects, ensuring solutions aligning with organizational objectives and industry best practices.
Oversee the end-to-end software development lifecycle—including planning, estimation, system design, code reviews, testing, deployment, and support—while championing DevOps, Agile, and continuous improvement philosophies.
Ensure rigorous adherence to best practices in code quality, system security, accessibility, compliance, and automated testing for all deliverables.
Collaborate closely with cross-functional partners (product, design, QA, infrastructure, vendors, and stakeholders) to clarify requirements, prioritize work, and deliver scalable, reliable, and cost-effective solutions.
Manage resource planning, recruitment, performance, and professional development to build and sustain a talented, inclusive, and globally distributed engineering organization.
Foster a culture of innovation, knowledge sharing, and professional growth through mentorship, code reviews, and active participation in technical evaluations, proofs of concept, and emerging technology assessments.
Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion, and cultivate an environment that values teamwork, learning, and high performance.
Proactively identify and address technical and organizational risks, ensure timely resolution of production issues, and drive implementation of preventative measures.
Represent the engineering function to executive leadership, communicating progress, risks, opportunities, and recommendations.
Ensure all systems and code meet Visa’s security requirements, coding standards, and are designed for scalability, resilience, and monitoring.
Lead continuous process improvement by integrating lessons learned from sprint execution, maximizing team velocity, and optimizing Agile and DevOps practices.
Oversee the development and technical guidance for UI development, batch process automation, and the creation of technical specifications, test plans, and implementation strategies.
Facilitate collaboration with upstream and downstream systems, architects, and global teams—including vendors and offshore partners—to ensure integrated, scalable solutions.
This is a hybrid position. Expectation of days in office will be confirmed by your Hiring Manager.
QualificationsBasic Qualifications:
• 8+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 5 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 2 years of work experience with a PhD, OR 11+ years of relevant work experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 9 or more years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor's Degree or 7 or more relevant years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 3 or more years of experience with a PhD
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Extensive experience (8-10+ years) in large-scale system/software design, architecture, and development, ideally in complex environments.
- Proven leadership in building, mentoring, and managing high-performing, diverse engineering teams—including across frontend, backend, full-stack, and specialized roles.
- Strong hands-on technical expertise with Python, Java/J2EE, Oracle, MongoDB, SQL, Linux, JavaScript, and web technologies (HTTP/S, Spring, XML, JSON, REST, AngularJS).
- Deep knowledge of software engineering principles, design patterns, data structures, algorithms, and multi-tier application architectures.
- Advanced proficiency with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins), version control systems (e.g., Git), automated build/deployment, and test automation frameworks (e.g., JUnit, Selenium, Playwright).
- Expertise in Agile/Scrum development methodologies, DevOps practices, and experience with project/requirements management tools (e.g., JIRA, TFS).
- Strong understanding of security standards, compliance, and best practices for secure application development and platform support.
- Experience with using and/or implementing GenAI tools to increase productivity
- Ability to lead architectural design and code review discussions, provide technical guidance, and ensure high code quality and maintainability.
- Demonstrated experience managing production support, rapid issue resolution, and implementing preventative solutions.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate with diverse global stakeholders.
- Strong conceptual, analytical, and problem-solving skills—able to respond resourcefully to new demands and challenges.
- Commitment to ongoing learning, professional development, and staying current with emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices.
