We are looking for a Senior Manager, Sustainability to join UPM Communication Paper –  driving our sustainability agenda and turning technical expertise into real customer value.

What you will do

  • Build and advance UPM Communication Paper's technical sustainability expertise across climate and other sustainability topics – creating the data, tools, and evidence base that underpins our product offer and strengthens our position with customers

  • Develop sustainability solutions and product concepts together with customers and commercial teams – translating technical performance into attributes that create real customer value

  • Act as a key partner to Operations and Sourcing teams, connecting mill-level and sourcing activities to product-level claims and customer requirements

  • Play a key role in driving life cycle assessments (LCAs) and developing the methodology behind product carbon footprint calculations and nature-related product attributes, in close collaboration with Group Responsibility and R&D teams

  • Ensure compliance with relevant product-level regulations and certifications and internal capability building.

  • Act as the primary product sustainability expert in customer conversations – handling inquiries, developing customer-ready materials, and actively supporting sales teams in building sustainability into customer relationships

  • Represent UPM Communication Paper as a thought leader in external events, forums, and associations, and support leadership in marketing and communications

Who you are

  • You hold a master's degree and have 7+ years of experience in sustainability, environmental science, climate, nature, or a related field

  • You are sustainability-driven and business-minded – you see technical sustainability work as a direct driver of customer value and competitive advantage

  • You have solid knowledge of LCA methodology and product carbon footprint calculation – and you are comfortable translating that expertise into clear value for customers and commercial teams

  • You understand sustainability attributes, environmental product declarations, and certification processes – and you know how to keep them compliant, data-driven, and credible

  • You are a strong collaborator and team player, able to build trust with diverse stakeholders – from mill teams and operations to sales, customers, and senior leadership

  • You have experience leading cross-functional projects in matrix organisations and are comfortable navigating complexity without losing sight of the big picture

  • You are result-oriented and take ownership – you follow through, deliver, and know how to prioritise in a fast-moving environment

  • You are a confident communicator and presenter, able to convey complex sustainability topics clearly to varied audiences

  • Fluent English is required; German is a plus
