As the Senior Manager of Software Engineering at JPMorgan Chase within the Financial Technologies division, you will lead and mentor technical teams to promote innovation and excellence in our Indexing and Search domain. This role offers the opportunity to shape architecture, build an engineering culture, and influence budget and technical strategies to enhance operational efficiencies and functionalities. You will partner with product management and application teams to define a roadmap for high-performance, cost-optimized, and compliant offerings, fostering a culture of ownership, continuous learning, and engineering rigor.
Job responsibilities
- Own end-to-end technical strategy for Indexing and Search domain - adopting current day practices such as shift left on quality, observability and engineering prudence on cost model for the product value
- Partner with product management, architecture and application product teams in defining the roadmap for a high performance, cost optimized and compliant Indexing & Search offerings
- Establish DevOps-first culture, ensuring product reliability, scalability and security through sound design and operational excellence(SLIs/SLOs)
- Foster a culture of ownership, continuous learning and engineering rigor
- Conduct regular 1:1s, growth planning and performance coaching for staff
- Be accountable for decisions that influence teams' resources, budget, tactical operations, and the execution and implementation of processes and procedures
- Campion inclusion ensuring successful collaboration across teams and stakeholders
- Identifies and mitigates issues to execute a book of work while escalating issues as necessary
- Provides input to leadership regarding budget, approach, and technical considerations to improve operational efficiencies and functionality for the team
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years applied experience. In addition, 2 + years of experience leading technologists to manage and solve complex technical items within your domain of expertise
- Hands-on product development experience with 4+ years Engineering Management with excellent communication skills
- Experience in leading cross functional team, stakeholder management and collaboration
- Strategic thinker with a hands-on bias for execution; Communicate clearly with technical, non-technical and business stakeholders
- Proven experience in building and operating large-scale indexing, search systems (Lucene, Elastic/OpenSearch, Solr, vector DBs) with an API first approach
- Experience with distributed systems, data pipelines and microservices architectures (Kafka, Spark, K8s)
- Experience with hiring, developing, and recognizing talent
- Formal professional education and certification in Computer Science Engineering, strong in Mathematics and expertise in technology disciplines
- Programming skills in Java / Kotlin , Python ; Experience and exposure to AWS ; Experience with Observability stacks such as Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry
- Experience and exposure to SQL and NoSQL storage stacks
- Hands-on experience with determining and tracking unit costs and building cost model for the product
Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Familiarity with modern search paradigms - hybrid (keyword + vector), semantic search, relevance tuning
- Experience working at code level; Exposure to archiving, compliance or enterprise SaaS is a strong plus
- Experience with Azure and GCP
- Experience with Databricks
