About the role
As the Senior Manager of Reliability Engineering Tooling, you will lead a newly formed team tasked with developing and operating tools that drive reliability and scalability across Zillow Group’s engineering ecosystem! Your team will create reusable, product-oriented solutions, such as traffic shaping tools and migration enablement platforms, that enable internal teams to build reliable systems and deliver seamless customer experiences. As a Senior Manager, Reliability Engineering Tooling, you will:

Lead a team of 5–8 Reliability Engineers and collaborate with cross-functional groups to build and deliver tooling, frameworks, best practices, and solutions for sophisticated reliability challenges.

Develop application standardization and production readiness quality gates to ensure consistent reliability outcomes.

Be accountable for delivering high-quality, timely, and targeted solutions and products to internal customers.

Combine people and project management skills to guide your team through multiple sophisticated projects successfully.

Coordinate, supervise, and communicate project status and activities to peers, senior engineering leaders, and executive partners.

Track, mitigate, resolve, and escalate systemic and individual incident issues as needed.

Build and maintain plans and forecasts, ensuring alignment with budgets and project landmarks.

Drive transparency and precision in project scoping and execution.
This role has been categorized as a Remote position. “Remote” employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice, which must be identified to the Company. U.S. employees may live in any of the 50 United States, with limited exceptions.
In California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada, New York, Washington state, and Washington DC the standard base pay range for this role is $201,700.00 - $322,300.00 Annually. This base pay range is specific to California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada, New York, Washington state, and Washington DC and may not be applicable to other locations.
In addition to a competitive base salary this position is also eligible for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance and location. Actual amounts will vary depending on experience, performance and location.
Who you are

Proven experience in Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) and/or software development as an individual contributor or team lead, with a strong understanding of SRE principles, frameworks, and standard processes.

Demonstrated ability in a management or technical leadership role.

Proven expertise in software development lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies and best practices.

Consistent track record of leading engineering teams and driving cross-functional product roadmaps to deliver outcomes in reliability, availability, security, and performance.

Hands-on experience with public cloud providers (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP), observability solutions, CI/CD pipelines, containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes), and distributed systems.

Experience leading incident and problem management processes in a 24x7 environment, with a focus on remediation and continuous improvement.

Skilled at defining and driving technical strategy, setting team goals, and delivering measurable outcomes aligned with business impact.

Proficiency in Agile methodologies and iterative software development.
