Overview

The Sr. Manager, Sales Engineering is responsible for managing the Technical Support team, including sales engineers, special engineering quotations, and Genconnect support. This role oversees technical sales phone and email support, coordinates special design options between distribution and special engineering, and supports national account-specific needs.

The position also develops and maintains technical sales support materials, manages Power Generation Subject Matter Experts (e.g., sizing, alternators, applications, and codes), and advocates for product improvements and customer issue resolution.

Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Management (60%)

• Lead and manage the Sales Engineering function, including the Technical Support team and Power Generation Subject Matter Experts.

• Select, coach, and develop team members, setting objectives aligned with company strategy.

• Drive talent management through performance management, succession planning, and employee development.

• Establish and maintain processes for performance recognition, continuous feedback, and performance improvement.

Technical Support & Customer Focus (40%)

• Ensure national account needs are met through timely and knowledgeable support.

• Oversee customer service and technical sales phone and email support for distribution teams and customers.

• Provide resources and direction for technical training and technical marketing support.

• Support the creation of sales drawings and materials to aid sales efforts.

• Manage special engineering quotes and coordinate market needs with special engineering teams.

• Advocate for product improvements and resolution of customer issues.

• Oversee updates to Power Design Pro and Genconnect submittals.

Additional Responsibilities

• Ensure a SAP Super User is designated within the functional area.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required;

• 10 years of Power Generation, Controls, Alternators, or Application Engineering experience;

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint);

• 8 years progressive leadership experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Engineering degree;

• MBA degree;

• Previous experience using SAP or equivalent ERP.
