The Research Office enhances UQ's research performance and profile by working with faculties, institutes, research teams and researchers to develop ambitious research programs, strengthen inter- and transdisciplinary research and expand participation in national and international research initiatives.

As Senior Manager (Research Programs, Outcomes and Impact), you will play a pivotal role in advancing UQ's research performance, partnerships and global engagement through the development of large scale inter- and transdisciplinary, and international collaborative research programs. Working across institutional boundaries, you will help connect researchers, partners and opportunities to address complex societal challenges, strengthen research impact and position UQ for success in major national and international collaborative initiatives.

Working within a collaborative Research Office team and closely with colleagues across faculties, institutes and central divisions, you will help you will help expand UQ's participation in international research and innovation ecosystems, including Horizon Europe and other strategically important global initiatives. You will contribute to the development of research programs, networks and collaborative platforms that enable UQ researchers to compete successfully in increasingly interconnected research environments.

This role offers the opportunity to influence institution wide research initiatives and work with leading researchers and partners, philanthropic organisations and international collaborators across Australia and globally.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and deliver strategic initiatives, frameworks and collaborative mechanisms that strengthen UQ's inter- and transdisciplinary research programs and enhance the quality, scale, diversity and impact of the University's research portfolio.

  • Develop and deliver initiatives that diversify and strengthen UQ's participation in national and international research and innovation ecosystems, including Horizon Europe, international foundations, mission-oriented research programs and other strategic collaborative initiatives.

  • Facilitate the development of strategic partnerships and collaborative networks across academia, industry, government, philanthropy and international organisations that address significant societal and global challenges.

  • Identify and enable opportunities for large scale collaborative research programs, supporting researchers to build consortia, develop the required partnerships and pursue ambitious research agendas.

  • Provide expert leadership, capability building, strategic advice and project delivery support that strengthen research outcomes, impact, knowledge exchange and institutional performance.

About You

You are a strategic, collaborative and adaptable professional who thrives in dynamic environments and enjoys bringing people together around ambitious ideas. You have a demonstrated ability to influence outcomes, build partnerships and translate complex opportunities into impactful research initiatives.

Essential

  • A postgraduate qualification in a relevant field, or an equivalent combination of extensive experience, education and training, together with demonstrated success leading complex strategic initiatives, collaborative programs or major projects in a research, higher education, government or related environment.

  • Proven experience developing and delivering major funding proposals, business cases, investment opportunities or strategic initiatives that secure organisational outcomes, resources, investment or external engagement.

  • Strong knowledge of the Australian research and innovation sector, together with experience navigating international research funding landscapes and collaborative funding mechanisms.

  • Experience with Horizon Europe or comparable international research funding programs will be viewed favourably.

  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement, relationship management and influencing skills, with the ability to build productive partnerships across academia, industry, government, philanthropy and international organisations.

  • Exceptional written communication, strategic thinking and problem-solving capabilities, with the agility and adaptability to thrive in evolving research, policy and innovation environments.

Desirable

  • Experience supporting, developing or participating in Horizon Europe or other major multinational research funding programs involving complex international consortia and cross-sector collaboration.
