The Senior Manager is responsible for leading the end-to-end procurement strategy for the External Manufacturing category. They will deliver cost efficiency, quality, innovation, and sustainability outcomes that enable J&J’s business growth. Applying their category subject matter expertise, they will partner closely with Supply Chain (SC), Quality, R&D, Legal, Finance, and other business partners to define sourcing strategies, shape the supply base, and drive supplier relationships.
Key responsibilities:
Procurement Strategy & Execution
Deploy and maintain category sourcing strategies and a prioritized roadmap of initiatives aligned with short‑, mid‑, and long‑term business needs
Leverage market intelligence & category expertise to assess industry trends, identify value‑creation opportunities, and proactively address supply and cost risks
Maintain a prioritized roadmap of sourcing initiatives and ensure delivery against business milestones.
Lead or coordinate large, sophisticated procurement projects aligned with the strategy
Supplier Management & Contracting
Select, onboard, and manage strategic suppliers while partnering to drive performance, innovation, and opportunities for cost reductions, and quality and process improvements
Lead the negotiation of commercial agreements and contracts (balancing value, risk, and business continuity) throughout their lifecycle (including renewals and amendments) and in partnership with Legal
Team Member Engagement & Cross-Functional Collaboration
Act as procurement's representative in cross‑functional category and project forums
Partner with cross‑functional teams (SC, Quality, Regulatory, R&D, etc.) to translate business requirements into sourcing plans and enable product launches and operational readiness.
Champion sustainable procurement and supplier diversity initiatives
Financial Management & Commercial Impact
Deliver cost‑effective sourcing solutions across existing and new products
Drive cost avoidance and cash‑flow improvements through negotiation strategies
Manage key procurement performance indicators (CIP, Cash, Cost Avoidance, Inflation, etc.) and ensure accurate forecasting and budgeting aligned with financial cycles
Risk, Resiliency, & Compliance
Identify commercial, supply, quality, and regulatory risks
Develop and maintain contingency and continuity plans
Ensure compliance with regulatory and quality requirements
Data, Tools, & Continuous Improvement
Promote digital tools and automation opportunities
Use procurement systems and analytics to generate insights and drive continuous improvement in supplier and sourcing performance
Innovation
Translate category needs into supplier innovation projects and lead projects through commercialization, ensuring qualification and verification, and appropriate representation from Quality, R&D, and Procurement throughout project phases
Represent Procurement in innovation initiatives globally and regionally
Qualifications:
EDUCATION:
Minimum of a Bachelor's/University or equivalent degree is required; advanced (MBA) degree or focused degree preferred in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or related field
Certifications preferred: CIPS, CPSM, APICS (CPIM, CLTD, or CSCP), CPP, CPM, or PMP/FPX
Experience and skills:
Required:
Minimum 8 years of relevant work experience in Procurement and/or Category Management
Experience in sourcing strategy, supplier management, and contract negotiation
Proficiency in Excel, with strong analytics skills to analyze insights, spend, or supplier performance evaluation
Familiarity with digital and AI procurement tools
Strong presentation and executive communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with and influence business partners
Demonstrated experience leading complex, cross‑functional sourcing initiatives/projects
Preferred:
Experience developing category strategies or multi‑year sourcing roadmaps
Strong commercial acumen and understanding of cost drivers, market dynamics, and risk trade‑offs
Experience managing strategic or high‑risk suppliers, including performance and continuous improvement
Demonstrated ability to manage ambiguity with agility, prioritize effectively, and drive outcomes in a fast paced, complex environment
Experience with global procurement for External Manufacturing, Materials, and Services
Pharmaceutical, Life Science, FMCG or equivalent industry experience
Other:
May require up to 20% domestic and international travel
Requires the ability, through our flexible work policy, to work on-site a minimum of three days each week, with the option for two remote workdays each week

Subject to the terms of their respective policies and date of hire, employees are eligible for the following time off benefits:
• Vacation –120 hours per calendar year

• Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays –13 days per calendar year
