The Global Merchant & Network Services (GMNS) Pricing team is responsible for the single largest source of American Express’ revenue: Merchant discount revenue. The team works closely with multiple business partners to determine the ideal pricing structure to encourage merchant acceptance of American Express, while striving to improve coverage and merchant satisfaction. Ultimately, we drive merchant revenue and profit growth through customer-centric pricing principles, flexible pricing architecture, and innovative pricing solutions.
ResponsibilitiesThe Payments landscape is evolving fast, and the need to monitor, understand and react to our competitive environment is greater than ever. The Senior Manager, Pricing – Competitive Intelligence will drive research, analysis, and modeling that supports a global, dynamic view of competitive network and acquirer pricing, with a particular focus on driving model optimization. The Senior Manager will also support training & knowledge management within the Pricing organization and across the Blue Box.
The successful candidate will report to the Director of Competitive Intelligence on the GMNS Pricing team.
Job Responsibilities:
The Senior Manager, Pricing – Competitive Intelligence will:
Support maintenance and updates of GMNS Pricing’s Competitive Intelligence (CI) models globally.
Drive model optimization efforts, including evaluation of automation / dashboardization initiatives for existing models and outputs.
Stay abreast of regulatory changes globally and assess implications together with industry dynamics through internal and external resources in compliance with company policies.
Leverage competitive insights and internal targets to:
Refine existing merchant pricing initiatives across merchant segments and countries.
Design merchant pricing strategies for emerging payment models.
Provide consultative support on CI projects and requests across the Pricing organization.
Develop internal and external materials to educate and update business partners and senior leadership on competitive dynamics and implications to better quantify the AXP value proposition.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required.
4+ years of experience in Management Consulting, Corporate Strategy, Investment Banking, or the Payments industry.
Strong aptitude for analytics; demonstrated ability to develop sophisticated financial models and draw value-added insights from large amounts of data.
Excellent executive presence and communication skills – written and oral – with experience influencing senior leaders, developing, and presenting nuanced insights, and driving consensus among diverse stakeholder groups.
Strong relationship management and collaboration skills, with the ability to manage internal stakeholders and external vendors.
Results-oriented with the ability to operate effectively under pressure, navigate ambiguity, balance multiple priorities, and drive alignment across functions.
Preferred Qualifications:
MBA or relevant graduate degree.
Experience in and/or significant exposure to the payments industry preferred.
Experience with Business Intelligence tools (PowerBI, Tableau, etc.) a plus.
