Job Description

Gracenote, the content data division of Nielsen, powers innovative entertainment experiences for leading media companies worldwide. Our advanced entertainment metadata and connected IDs enable seamless content navigation and discovery, helping consumers connect to the content they love and explore new favorites. With a global presence, Gracenote delivers both global and localized video, audio, automotive & sports content solutions across the Americas, Asia-Pacific, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. We are seeking a talented Senior Software Manager to join our Gracenote Tech team. The ideal candidate should have a strong passion for Engineering Leadership, Technology, Solving AI led Engineering problems, People Management Skills & Engineering Operational Excellence.

Job Description:
As a Senior Software Manager, 
You will own a Functional area comprising multiple tech components. 
Drive Technical roadmap focusing more on platformisation, generic components and own tech metrics like product reliability, performance and availability. 
Familiar with academic research, industry trends and standards.
Mentor and guide team members on everything from structured problem solving to development of best practices.
Has a strong impact on Engineering hiring and improves hiring culture within team
Accountable for Onboarding team members
Communicates with stakeholders in an effective and timely fashion.
Accountable for timely deliverables with high quality

Key Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership & Development
    • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of software developers.
    • Foster a culture of collaboration, ownership, and continuous learning.
    • Conduct regular performance reviews and support career development.
  • Technology Ownership
    • Own and evolve the core technical systems, ensuring scalability, security, and reliability
    • Provide technical guidance and make architecture decisions in collaboration with senior engineers.
    • Drive best practices in code quality, testing, and deployment.
    • Expertise in designing and implementing diverse data delivery solutions, including real-time streaming architectures, efficient batch processing systems and robust API delivery mechanisms.
    • Roll up your sleeves and go hands on as needed.
  • Product & Roadmap Collaboration
    • Partner with cross teams and staff engineers to define and deliver the product roadmaps.Translate business goals into technical solutions.
    • Balance short-term priorities with long-term technical vision. 
  • Problem Solving & Execution
    • Identify bottlenecks, technical risks, and opportunities for improvement.
    • Facilitate efficient problem-solving across teams and stakeholders.
    • Ensure timely and high-quality delivery of projects.
  • Communication
    • Act as a strategic advisor to senior leadership and act as a bridge between leadership and the team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering
  • 2-3+ years of experience in a technical leadership or management role, preferably managing engineering teams of 12+ people
  • Deep understanding of platforms and tech stacks such as Kafka, distributed systems, relational databases. 
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Java, Python, C++, SCALA, GoLang.
  • Passion for technology and a commitment to staying abreast of industry trends and advancements.
  • Strong understanding of software development methodologies (Agile, Scrum, etc.).
  • Proven track record of delivering complex projects on schedule.
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and influence stakeholders.
