In this dynamic role, you will balance creative storytelling with operational leadership. You will cultivate strong relationships with key national, local and trade media, oversee the development of high-impact content (from press releases to video scripts), and support our experts in securing thought leadership and award opportunities. To ensure our efforts are highly effective, you will also lead the team responsible for PR measurement, monitoring, and real-time news updates, grounding or creative work in data.

As a leader within the Marketing & Communications department, you will manage and mentor direct reports, championing modern best practices, including the responsible use of generative AI. Additionally, you will serve as a designated Public Information Officer (PIO) for specific hospital(s), providing calm, strategic communications support during operational or emergency situations.

What you will do:

  • Partner with Marketing & Growth and Community Impact & Engagement colleagues to build relationships with clinicians, experts and teams across the system, as well as external partners. Maintain a strong “feet on the ground” presence to capture stories, identify emerging trends, and develop proactive media relations approaches that highlight our world-class clinical expertise and commitment to our communities.
  • Lead development and review of key written and multimedia communications on behalf of the organization and its experts, which may include press releases, newsroom, messaging/talking points, speeches, bylines, Q&As, blogs, website content, and social media posts that reinforce key messages and objectives.
  • Lead PR measurement and monitoring, aligned to the Marketing & Communications dashboard, and prepare summaries of media activities for senior management. Share key updates in real-time.

  • Serve as the public information officer for assigned hospital(s). Maintain a strong grasp of operational and facility-specific emergency plans, maintain strong relationships, and participate in emergency preparedness exercises. As needed, collaborate with operational leaders to develop and disseminate timely emergency response communications.

  • Unique or Preferred Skills:
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills across a variety of formats and familiarity with AP Style.
  • Issues and crisis management experience with exceptionally sound judgment, ability to summarize information and recommendations, manage up, coordinate with emergency response teams, and remain calm under pressure.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and delivering on strategic, data-informed communications and thought leadership campaigns.
  • Experience with multi-media content development, including basic video and photography capture, and the amplification of content across evolving communications channels and platforms.
  • Attuned to communications best practices, including the use of generative AI and measurement capabilities, to support a high-performing team and align with the broader marketing mix.
  • Natural curiosity and the ability to tie storytelling to business strategy; an enthusiastic communicator skilled at building stories across multiple channels to inspire, inform, and build trusted relationships.
  • Media relations expert with experience serving as a spokesperson and strong relationships with key local and national print, broadcast and online media.
  • Experience leading media trainings for executives and subject matter experts.
  • Strong pulse on current events, trends and pop culture.
