The Senior Manager of Machine Learning is chartered with just that - accelerating our ability to scale the team and our capabilities. You will be responsible for radically changing the way the team does its work by creating, maintaining, and training the team on tools used to scale what they do. In addition to this, you will be tasked with assessing new data, lines of business and potentially new algorithms against existing or new problems in the company.

A successful candidate will have a thirst for knowledge. Able to learn and apply new concepts quickly and effectively. You will also have a strong foundation in cloud technologies and data science tooling. Making the team as a whole more efficient and effective should be the guiding light of the individual in this role.

Responsibilities:

  • Engage with business teams to find opportunities, understand requirements, and translate those requirements into technical solutions
    • Understand the business and data models to effectively query data and define common datasets and utilities to recompute/access them.
    • Help improve the scope of our data sets by identifying new data collection and procurement opportunities on an ongoing basis.
  • Effectively prioritize competing initiatives across direct reports; translate strategic priorities into individual/team initiatives and manage expectations
  • Communicate results of analyses to business partners and executives
  • Research new technologies and methods across machine learning, data science, data engineering, and data visualization to improve the technical capabilities of a team of machine learning engineers and data scientists
  • Hire and build a team of high output machine learning engineers.
  • Work with a sense of ownership and urgency, advocate for experimentation based, agile culture.

Requirements:

  • PhD/MS in computer science, machine learning, or related fields.
  • 6+ years of relevant experience in data science, machine learning or applied statistics.
  • Experience with Machine Learning, NLP and data mining tools and underlying algorithms.
  • Experienced in Python, R, Spark or other languages and frameworks appropriate for large scale analysis of structured and unstructured data.
  • Working experience with relational databases (SQL) and large scale distributed systems.
  • Extensive experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, or equivalent
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, distilling complex analysis and concepts into concise business-focused takeaways
  • Strong ability to coach Machine Learning Engineers, helping them improve their skills and grow their careers

Preferred:

  • Prior success in a leadership role (team of 4+)
  • Extensive experience with containerization and Docker
  • Experience with common pipelining tools such as Airflow, Luigi, Metaflow, etc.
