Optum is a global organization that delivers care, aided by technology to help millions of people live healthier lives. The work you do with our team will directly improve health outcomes by connecting people with the care, pharmacy benefits, data and resources they need to feel their best. Here, you will find a culture guided by diversity and inclusion, talented peers, comprehensive benefits and career development opportunities. Come make an impact on the communities we serve as you help us advance health equity on a global scale. Join us to start Caring. Connecting. Growing together.
What you'll do:
In this role, you will lead the design and scaling of security focused engineering solutions that strengthen identity, access control, and overall access governance across the organization. You will drive automation to enforce security policies consistently, reduce manual intervention, and improve real time visibility into access risk and compliance posture. Working closely with Security, Identity, and platform teams, you will embed controls such as solid authentication, conditional access, and policy enforcement directly into identity and access management workflows. Your focus will be on building resilient, scalable security capabilities that proactively reduce risk, support compliance requirements, and evolve with the organization's threat landscape.
Primary Responsibilities:
Delivery & Execution
  • Ensure predictable, high-quality delivery using Agile/Scrum methodologies
  • Partner with Product Managers to translate business requirements into technical execution plans
  • Balance delivery speed with technical debt management and platform stability
  • Oversee sprint planning, release management, and production readiness

People Management
  • Line-manage Engineering Managers and Senior Engineers
  • Coach, mentor, and develop engineers through regular 1:1s and career planning
  • Build a high-performance engineering culture
  • Support hiring, onboarding, and performance management

Stakeholder & Product Collaboration
  • Act as a key engineering partner to Product, Security, Compliance, and Operations
  • Communicate technical risks, trade-offs, and delivery timelines clearly to non-technical stakeholders
  • Contribute to roadmap planning, estimation, and prioritization discussions

Operational Excellence
  • Own engineering KPIs (delivery predictability, system health, incident metrics)
  • Drive improvements in CI/CD pipelines, observability, and on-call practices
  • Ensure compliance with internal governance, security, and data protection standards

You will be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role, as well as providing development for other roles you may be interested in.
Required Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience
  • Proven extensive software engineering experience, including solid experience in leadership/management roles
  • Proven experience building and operating SaaS platforms at scale
  • Proven ability to manage and grow engineering managers and senior engineers
  • Demonstrated deep understanding of Agile delivery, SDLC, and modern DevOps practices
  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences

Please note you must currently be eligible to work and remain indefinitely without any restrictions in the country to which you are making an application. Proof will be required to support your application.
