Group Financial Risk is a broad team which deploys the Group’s credit risk frameworks, actively manages and monitors the Group’s credit risk exposures, undertakes credit model development, executes financial risk project management and supports non-retail customers via the Group Credit Structuring Unit.

The Group Financial Risk - Policy team works closely with Line 1 and Line 2 teams across Retail and Non-Retail Business Units and Subsidiaries, both domestically and offshore, to implement best practice credit risk policies and strategies and provide expert advice on APRA regulatory compliance matters.

Do work that matters

The Portfolio, Policy and Provisioning team is responsible for:

  • Designing and managing the implementation of Group-wide credit risk policies and credit risk governance frameworks.

  • Providing expert advice on regulatory requirements relating to credit risk.

Your role as Senior Manager Credit Policy includes the ongoing review and improvements to credit risk policy, providing expert advice on credit policy and process, and the interpretation of APRA Prudential Standards for Credit Risk, specifically APS 112, APS 113 and APS220. You will play an integral role to ensure best practice credit risk management policies and processes are developed and implemented across the Group to enable Business Units to achieve their goals and comply with regulatory requirements. 

You will also provide advice to a broad range of internal stakeholders with respect to regulatory credit risk matters on customer transactions, operational risk improvements and ensuring senior management and the board meet their obligations with respect to credit risk.

Your responsibilities would also include

  • Provide expert advice to senior management, BU’s and SU’s for the implementation of APRA Prudential Standards for Credit Risk, specifically APS 112, APS 113 and APS220.

  • Proactively review, refine and improve credit policies and processes, whilst meeting regulatory expectations.

  • Research, analyse and formulate the development of Group wide credit policies in response to regulatory change or Board and senior management requirements.

  • Provide guidance, expert advice and interpretation of regulatory issues relating to credit risk.

  • Actively engage with the Business Units and Business Unit Risk teams to ensure Business Unit Standards, Processes and strategies are consistent with Group Policy.

  • Work with Operational Risk and Compliance stakeholders to ensure that these frameworks are fit for purpose for regulatory credit risk and capital management.

  • Representing GFR at industry discussions relating to credit risk and regulatory credit risk matters.

  • Contribute to regulatory reviews, including provision of credit risk materials and briefing notes for senior management.

  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders across the Group.

We're interested in hearing from people who have

  • Demonstrated experience in banking/financial services with a core understanding of the lending lifecycle coupled with credit skills.

  • Advanced knowledge of APRA Prudential Standards for Credit Risk, APS 112, APS 113 and APS 220.

  • Substantial practical experience in credit risk management, either in Line 1 or Line 2 business areas.

  • Experience in policy development.

  • An understanding of the bank’s systems, data flows and capital reporting requirements is well regarded.

  • An ability to work proactively and independently, make recommendations and balance different challenges and activities.

  • Effective communication skills, including proficiency in report writing and presentation of data.

  • Strong stakeholder management and critical thinking and analytical skills.
