POSITION SCOPE AND ORGANIZATIONAL IMPACT
The Senior Manager of External Communications will serve as a key member of the Communications team, managing the day-to-day execution of Moss' external communications function. This role is responsible for public relations, media relations, issues management, social media strategy, and digital content that support Moss' brand visibility and reputation. This position requires a skilled communicator who can manage agency relationships, coordinate across departments, and execute external communications with consistency and precision.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the development and execution of external communications strategies that advance Moss' brand reputation and business objectives across all markets and geographies.
  • Manage day-to-day public relations and media relations efforts, including press release writing and distribution, media pitching, and press interview logistics with spokespersons.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with media contacts, industry publications, trade journalists, and community stakeholders across national and regional markets.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for external media inquiries, routing and managing responses in alignment with the Moss brand voice and direction from the Director of Communications.
  • Support the company's issues and crisis communications function, executing response protocols, monitoring emerging situations, and coordinating real-time communications under the direction of senior leadership.
  • Manage external PR agency relationships, ensuring efficient use of  resources, clear deliverables, consistent reporting, and alignment with organizational priorities.
  • Oversee corporate social media strategy and execution, including platform management, editorial calendars, content development, performance analytics, and paid campaign coordination.
  • Manage and maintain communications-related content on the company website, ensuring accuracy, relevance, and alignment with brand and messaging standards.
  • Develop content across formats, including press releases, company statements, social media copy, web copy, award submissions, and more, that reflects Moss' voice and supports its industry positioning.
  • Manage communications team member(s) and support their growth, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment.
  • Leverage industry-leading technologies, including AI and machine learning tools, to improve workflows and content quality.
  • Track, measure, and report on external communications performance, using data-driven insights to refine strategy and demonstrate impact.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field; Master's degree a plus.
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in external communications, public relations, and/or media relations.
  • Demonstrated experience managing PR agency relationships and holding external partners accountable to deliverables and timelines.
  • Proven ability to manage and develop team members, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Experience supporting issues management and crisis communications, including executing response plans and coordinating messaging in real time.
  • Strong writing and editing skills with the ability to produce polished content across a variety of formats and channels.
  • Experience managing social media strategy, digital content, and web communications.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to think strategically and execute tactically in a fast-paced environment.
