The Senior Manager, Estimating & Resource Planning leads estimating and resource planning for new construction projects at Seaspan Shipyards. The role provides cost estimates, resource forecasts, planning analysis, and reporting to support bids, contract changes, program execution, and strategic decision-making. What you’ll do

  • Lead and continuously improve estimating and resource planning processes, tools, reporting, and governance. 
  • Develop and validate labour, material, and overhead estimates for bids, proposals, and contract changes. 
  • Establish labour rates and estimating assumptions across engineering, planning, and production activities. 
  • Interpret project scope and apply estimating methodologies to determine production costs. 
  • Develop material cost estimates using vendor quotes, historical data, and benchmark information. 
  • Apply overhead and cost assumptions in partnership with Finance and key stakeholders. 
  • Lead medium- and long-term resource forecasting to support capacity planning and business strategy. 
  • Align resource plans with project schedules, facilities plans, capital investments, and operational capacity. 
  • Support contract change work, growth opportunities, and emerging scope requirements. 
  • Assess labour and material savings opportunities for capital and process improvement initiatives. 
  • Maintain estimating databases, productivity metrics, and historical cost information. 
  • Deliver management reporting, forecasts, dashboards, and recommendations to support decision-making. 
  • Mentor and develop team members while providing leadership across cross-functional teams.

 

What you’ll bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, project management, operations management or a related field; master’s degree or equivalent professional qualification is desirable.
  • 10–15 years of progressive experience in estimating, resource planning, project controls, production planning, facilities planning or project management within shipbuilding, marine, defense or large industrial manufacturing environments.
  • Minimum 5 years of management, supervisory or functional leadership experience, including leading teams, developing capability and influencing across a matrix organization.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting bids, proposals, contract change work, resource forecasts, Integrated Master Schedules and/or Earned Value Management in complex project environments.
  • Experience with Government contracts, major capital projects or regulated defense / marine programs is highly desirable.

The estimated salary for this position is $145,786-$209,567. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate’s skills and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company’s sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
