Role Description:
The Senior Manager – ER
Estimates & Ex-Ante Credit Bench marking (AFOLU) will be responsible for
developing, analyzing, and refining emission reduction (ER) estimates and
credit bench marking methodologies for AFOLU (Agriculture, Forestry, and Other Land
Use) projects. This role involves conducting ex-ante carbon credit assessments,
ensuring compliance with carbon standards, and integrating robust data
analytics to support high-integrity credit issuance. The ideal candidate should
have expertise in carbon accounting, AFOLU project methodologies, and ex-ante
estimation frameworks to drive an accurate and credible carbon market
participation.
- Act as the Principal Owner and Point of
Accountability for all AFOLU Project ER Estimations within the company -
during the Project Feasibility, Investment Proposal, and Ex-Ante stages.
- Act as the Internal Custodian & Guarantor of
the Ex-Ante Credit Benchmarking - thus playing a crucial support role in
attaining Project Credibility, maximizing Investability, and eliminating
Risk.
- Initiate & generate detailed Project ER
Estimation sheets for all AFOLU projects in collaboration with SMEs and
Project Leads - incorporating the most Market-credible & acceptable
methods, formulas, technical & scientific references, as relevant for
each particular AFOLU project category. The project categories would
include but are not limited to: ARR (Afforestation, Reforestation &
Revegetation), Blue Carbon (Mangroves, Sea Grass, etc), Sustainable
Agriculture, IFM (Integrated Forest Management), CCB (Climate, Community
& Biodiversity), REDD+, etc.
- Create, Maintain & Update as necessary,
Standard Modeling & Calculation Templates for each particular AFOLU
project category.
- Bring Cohesiveness, Clarity & Consistency to
Project ER Estimations that may often involve inputs distributed over
multiple departmental stakeholders including Project SMEs, Finance,
Project Operations, etc., as well as require multiple iterations over
potentially long project gestation periods.
- Be an extremely collaborative Team Player with
the ability to proactively reach out to various Team members (including
SMEs and Project Leads), in order to collaboratively formulate the Er
Estimations for each ongoing project opportunity.
- While the role is majorly focused on the Ex-Ante
stage, it also has responsibility during the Validation and Verification
stages, as much as necessary to support the Project Operations teams in
the matter of justifications and reconciliation of ER calculations.
- Expertly accumulate, update and maintain ER
Benchmarking Data & Analytics in an ongoing manner, from a wide range
of credible sources including but not limited to: Registered Projects on
Global Carbon Platforms, Industry References, Global Standardization
Bodies, Current & Historical Scientific Studies, etc., to position all
Project ER estimations on a robust ground with contemporary market
acceptability.
- Conduct periodic Internal Trainings &
Seminars to communicate the best practices in ER Estimations &
Calculations to the SME teams and others.
- Be presentable & well-groomed at all times,
as befits a corporate working culture.
- Must come from the Climate & Carbon Sector -
with minimum 10 years of demonstrable experience in Carbon Projects with
majority experience in the Voluntary markets. While this could be a mix of
various services (including Project Development, Carbon Portfolio
Management, Audits, Benchmarking) end-to-end involvement in a few key
AFOLU projects must be demonstrated - from Origination, Project Design
Document, Project Registration, Implementation & Execution, Credit
Issuances, through to Trading & Monetization.
- Experience in prominent Voluntary Carbon Registry
(Verra, Gold Standard, GCC, Cercarbono, etc) / Global or Indian Carbon
Rating Agencies / Carbon Data Providers, is Highly Preferred
- Minimum 6 years of exclusive experience in
Emission Reduction Calculations, Ex-Ante Estimations, and Credit
Benchmarking Studies for a range of AFOLU projects including ARR, Blue
Carbon, SALM, etc.
- Hands-on Expertise in ER and Ex-Ante Credit Estimation
Tools, Calculation Templates, Formulas, References, etc.
Skills Required
- Minimum 10 years of demonstrable experience in the climate and carbon sector
- Majority of experience in voluntary carbon markets
- End-to-end involvement in AFOLU carbon projects, including origination, PDD development, registration, implementation, credit issuance, trading, and monetization
- Minimum 6 years of exclusive experience in emission reduction calculations, ex-ante estimations, and credit benchmarking studies
- Experience across AFOLU project types including ARR, Blue Carbon, and SALM
- Hands-on expertise with emission reduction and ex-ante credit estimation tools, calculation templates, formulas, and technical references
- Experience with prominent voluntary carbon registries such as Verra, Gold Standard, GCC, or Cercarbono
- Experience with global or Indian carbon rating agencies or carbon data providers
