Job DescriptionWe are seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead a team of professional engineers — potentially including subordinate managers — delivering enterprise-grade platforms on Java, Spring Boot, Python (NumPy), REST APIs, Flask APIs, and Azure.
Responsibilities:
Manage a team of professional employees, occasionally including subordinate M5/M6 managers; adapt plans and priorities to meet team service, business, and operational objectives
Apply a deep understanding of the business and how your area integrates with others to achieve departmental objectives
Make decisions that impact the finances, results, effectiveness, and level of service provided by the team, guided by policies, departmental plans, budgets, and resource requirements
Identify and solve functional and organizational problems in a specialized area of expertise; understand and recognize broader impact across the department
Own the technical health and delivery of a portfolio of services built on Java, Spring Boot, Python (NumPy), REST/Flask APIs, and Azure
Drive architectural governance, engineering standards, and platform quality/performance/reliability improvements across teams
Own resource planning, budgets, and team plans; manage capacity, hiring, and vendor engagement as needed
Champion DevSecOps maturity and AI adoption across the SDLC — quality gates, security tooling, and AI-assisted engineering practices
Guide and influence others internally and externally to build collaborative relationships, achieve goals, and adopt different points of view
Develop managers and senior engineers; build succession depth and a strong engineering culture
Partner with Product, Architecture, PMO, and senior leadership on roadmap, prioritization, and cross-team dependencies
Ensure operational excellence: SLOs, incident management, cost optimization, and continuous improvement across owned services
10+ years of relevant software engineering experience, including 2+ years of people management experience (experience managing managers preferred)
Strong technical foundation in Java, Spring Boot, and Python ecosystems, including data-oriented workloads with NumPy
Deep understanding of API platforms — REST API design, governance, and Flask-based services
Proven experience delivering and operating large-scale systems on Azure (AKS, managed databases, observability)
Experience with RDBMS, NoSQL, messaging/queuing, and caching at enterprise scale
Strong expertise in DevSecOps practices, CI/CD maturity, and engineering quality metrics
Track record of managing budgets, resource plans, and delivery commitments across multiple teams
Experience in Agile/SAFe environments, including PI planning and cross-team coordination
Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, including handling sensitive organizational matters
Demonstrated ability to develop leaders and build high-performing, accountable engineering teams
