We're looking for a Data Science & ML Engineering Tech Lead for our cross-functional team of Data Scientists, Machine Learning Engineers, and Software Engineers behind Solera's Visual Intelligence (VI) technology, a computer vision-based damage detection solution for vehicles. This role will report to our Data Science and Machine Learning Manager.
What you'll do
- Report to the Data Science and ML Engineering Manager.
- Play a crucial role in the success of VI and the products built on top of it.
- Provide technical leadership to the team and drive the delivery of value together with the team through the team's initiatives.
- Align the team's efforts with business goals by turning market opportunities into potent roadmaps, measurable milestones and efficient delivery plans for the team.
- Take full ownership of the team's success by optimizing the team's productivity, quality of output, and value creation through continuous improvements of practices, processes, structures, and tools.
- Architect scalable data/ML systems to train and serve models across hundreds of millions of images and records.
- Help shape our tech stack:
- Python; PyTorch, TensorFlow
- GCP: BigQuery, Dataflow, Vertex AI, GKE, Cloud Run, Cloud Deploy
- Docker, Kubernetes

What we're looking for
- Expert understanding of state-of-the-art Deep Learning and Computer Vision concepts and techniques.
- Proven ability to lead the efficient, continuous creation and delivery of value through DL/CV-based solutions.
- Solid understanding and experience in other areas of Machine Learning, including tree-based models and LLMs.
- Expertise with large-scale datasets and distributed processing in the cloud.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals with a proven ability to promote through mentorship and coaching.
- Proven ability to balance short-term value delivery with growth and future/continued success.
- Strong ability and desire to foster a culture of transparency, fairness, inclusion, and growth.
- Structured problem solving, critical thinking, and scientific rigor-oriented mindset.
- Ability to lead by example, especially with regards to communication, structured problem solving, critical/systems thinking, as well as ownership and growth mindset.
- Proficiency in the English language with the capacity to efficiently and effectively communicate about complex concepts and problems both via sync (e.g. video calls) and async (e.g. writing) channels.
