We are seeking a Senior Manager, Data Science (Analytics) to lead analytics for eBay Live Seller Experience — a real-time livestream commerce platform and a key pillar of eBay’s next-generation selling experiences.
eBay Live enables sellers to host interactive, auction-driven livestreams across Collectibles, Luxury, Sneakers, and Apparel, combining content creation, community engagement, and commerce in real time. As a relatively new product, eBay Live Seller Experience presents a unique opportunity to define foundational analytics, shape seller-facing product strategy, and scale insights as the platform grows.
This is a hands-on, player-coach leadership role. You will personally lead complex, high-impact analyses while building and developing a strong analytics team. You will partner closely with product, engineering, design, and business leaders to ensure data, experimentation, and rigorous measurement guide seller onboarding, growth, monetization, and long-term success.
This role is ideal for an analytics leader who thrives in fast-moving, ambiguous environments and can balance deep technical leadership, execution excellence, and people leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Seller Product & Seller Success Analytics Ownership (Hands-on)
Own end-to-end analytics for eBay Live Seller Experience, including:
- Seller onboarding, activation, and time-to-first-live
- Listing quality, catalog readiness, and auction setup effectiveness
- Seller engagement, livestream frequency, and consistency
- Conversion, sell-through, revenue, and monetization performance
- Seller retention, repeat hosting behavior, and lifetime value
Design and govern seller growth experiments, including hypothesis definition, success metrics, guardrails, and post-launch evaluation
Analyze seller lifecycle performance to identify friction points and growth opportunities
Propose data-driven interventions and define clear measurement plans to assess impact
Ensure analytics outputs directly inform seller product prioritization and iteration
Technical Leadership & Analytical Depth
- Lead analyses end-to-end, from problem scoping and methodology selection to stakeholder-ready presentation
- Select and apply robust analytical methods, including advanced experimentation, econometrics, and statistical modeling, for complex measurement problems
- Set a high technical bar for analytical rigor, correctness, and interpretability
- Personally contribute to the most complex and high-impact analytical work
Review Standards, Quality Bar & Reproducibility
- Establish and enforce coding, analysis, and verification best practices across the team
- Conduct regular code and analysis reviews to ensure correctness, reproducibility, and clarity
- Define standards for documentation, experiment readouts, and decision memos
- Ensure all outputs are stakeholder-ready, trusted, and decision-oriented
Architecting Scalable Data & Analytics Solutions
- Identify and drive data solution needs in partnership with engineering, including:
- New data pipelines
- Event tracking and instrumentation schemas
- Derived tables, metrics layers, and seller analytics datasets
- Design analytics solutions with scale, maintainability, and long-term usability in mind
- Influence upstream data quality and platform decisions through analytics requirements
Applied AI / ML & Automation
- Identify high-impact opportunities to apply ML, AI, and automation to seller diagnostics, insights generation, and monitoring
- Prototype analytical and ML-driven solutions where appropriate
- Partner with ML engineers and platform teams to productionize solutions at scale
- Ensure AI-driven insights are explainable, actionable, and aligned with product needs
Strategic Insights & Influential Communication
- Distill complex analyses into clear, crisp narratives tailored to senior stakeholders
- Present insights, tradeoffs, and recommendations to Directors and VPs to drive product and investment decisions
- Act as a trusted analytics advisor to eBay Live leadership, grounding strategy in data and experimentation
Ownership, Prioritization & Stakeholder Management
- Operate autonomously as the primary analytics owner for Seller Experience
- Translate evolving seller strategy into a clear, prioritized analytics roadmap
- Focus the team on high-impact problems, balancing short-term needs with foundational investments
- Manage cross-functional projects end-to-end, driving alignment and measurable outcomes
People Leadership & Player-Coach Culture
- Build, manage, and develop a high-performing analytics team
- Balance hands-on contributions with mentoring, coaching, and guidance
- Set high standards for hiring, onboarding, and performance
- Foster a culture of continuous learning, collaboration, and positivity
Required Qualifications
- 11–15 years of experience delivering analytics and data science solutions, including product or growth analytics
- 3–6+ years of experience managing and developing analytics or data science teams
- Strong hands-on expertise in Python and SQL, with the ability to personally own complex analyses
- Deep experience with product analytics, experimentation, and behavioral data
- Proven ability to design and govern growth experiments and measurement frameworks
- Experience analyzing seller onboarding, listing quality, conversion, retention, and monetization
- Experience working with large-scale, event-level or real-time datasets
- Strong problem-framing skills in ambiguous environments
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with executive presence
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with livestream, creator, marketplace, or real-time commerce platforms
- Familiarity with seller growth, monetization, pricing, or marketplace health analytics
- Experience with modern data stack tools (e.g., Snowflake, Airflow, dbt)
- Experience applying AI/ML or LLM-based analytics in product or operational contexts
- Exposure to experimentation platforms, metric governance, or analytics standards programs
- Experience working in early-stage or 0→1 product environments
