Job Description:
At Remitly, we believe everyone deserves the freedom to access, move, and manage their money wherever life takes them. Since 2011, we've tirelessly delivered on our promise to customers sending money globally, providing secure, simple, and reliable ways to manage their money, ensuring true peace of mind. Whether it's supporting loved ones back home, growing a business across continents, or pursuing new opportunities abroad, we're not just here to move money— we're here to move our global customers forward. We're looking for builders, reimaginers, and global thinkers who want to work at the intersection of technology, trust, and transformation. If that's you and you're ready to do the most meaningful work of your career—we invite you to join over 2,800 passionate Remitlians worldwide who are united by our vision to transform lives with trusted financial services that transcend borders.About the Role:
We are looking for a Head of Credit Strategy - Lending that will shape Remitly's lending strategy and manage credit risk while delivering outstanding customer value. You will own the definition of our credit underwriting strategies across customer acquisitions and management for our liquidity and borrowing solutions, and their financial assessment. You will build and scale our credit risk analytics capability — including AI/ML-based underwriting, real-time portfolio monitoring, and collections strategy — with the goal of maximizing integrated customer LTV for Remitly while keeping risk-adjusted performance under control. You will operate in a collaborative environment, solving a rich set of challenges with internal and external partners, and embedding governance and compliance into every step. You will have the opportunity to bring and continue building your credit analytics experience, while expanding your horizon with Remitly's global focus and its mission to serve underserved markets.
You Will:
- Develop and iteratively refine customer risk segmentation, underwriting policy, line assignment and line management strategies for lending products, utilizing data-driven insights and prudent judgement. Own credit policy for new lending products. Ensure optimal outcomes on customer value, customer experience and business profitability, while fulfilling all regulatory requirements.
- Lead iterative development of underwriting and pricing models — from evaluating AI/ML algorithms and sourcing alternative data (e.g., transactional, behavioral) to production deployment and continuous optimization with cross-functional partners — to boost predictive accuracy and credit access for underserved segments.
- Define and drive organizational alignment on the vision, multi-year learning agenda and roadmap for our credit underwriting strategies and risk infrastructure capabilities. Collaborate with Product, Marketing and Engineering on conceptualizing new products, designing MVP and planning scaling campaigns, with a strong focus on driving economic viability and sustainability.
- Define and own key performance assumptions and KPIs needed to drive the desired risk outcomes, economic returns and resilience of lending products. Build and own LTV and NPV models capturing cost and revenue drivers, including integrated value of customers to Remitly, and own the assumptions and predictions underlying them.
- Architect real-time monitoring frameworks and automated alerting for portfolio health, key risk indicators (KRIs), concentration exposure, and collections performance. Establish robust monitoring and reporting routines to manage credit risk, and ensure proactive risk identification for new products, markets, or customer segments.
- Employ predictive analytics to improve collections strategy, focusing on customer outcomes and recovery efficiency.
- Proactively undertake data analysis to bring portfolio and product performance insights and inform future strategies. Present findings and action recommendations to cross-functional stakeholders, secure alignment and drive execution.
- Develop and implement credit risk governance processes, including Credit Committees, actionable reporting, and escalation protocols. Ensure models and analytics pipelines are auditable, scalable, deployment-ready, and aligned with best practices.
- Partner with Decision Sciences to develop, launch, and monitor credit decisioning models and advanced segmentation strategies. Guide the development of AI agents to support credit risk analytics. Evaluate new data sources and new tools/capabilities to enhance customer segmentation and underwriting decisions.
- Drive a culture of experimentation: define and execute A/B tests on underwriting/scoring criteria, pricing, and customer segments, and utilize insights to ground product performance assumptions and inform future strategies.
- Enable risk-awareness and analytics literacy across teams via workshops, training, and documentation.
- Lead and mentor Credit strategy managers and/or analysts, directly or via influence; raise bar on problem framing, data analysis, unit economics, and executional excellence.
You Have:
- 10+ years of professional experience in strategy and analytics roles driving financial business decisions.
- Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field (e.g., Math, Statistics, Engineering, Economics) required; advanced degree a plus.
- 5+ years of professional experience leading consumer lending business strategies using model based automated customer segmentation and underwriting.
- 5+ years of professional experience in portfolio credit risk monitoring, NPV/LTV evaluation, and assumption setting for consumer lending products.
- 2+ years of professional experience partnering with Finance and Accounting on CECL (Current Expected Credit Losses) reserve modeling and reporting.
- Demonstrated success managing credit risk for new products, markets, and customer segments.
- Analytical and integrated thinking skills. Ability to balance quantitative and qualitative considerations in driving business decisions.
- Experience distilling business problems from discussions, developing hypotheses and analysis frameworks, conducting analysis and finding creative solutions within constraints.
- Data visualization, technical business writing, and ability to collaborate with a diverse set of stakeholders, including training non-technical stakeholders in analytics and risk concepts.
- Hands-on experience with SQL, and scripting languages like Python/R for generating analytical insights from large-scale data.
- Comfort with statistical concepts and tools such as linear/logistic regression, time series analysis, and experimental methods.
