We are looking for an innovative and strategic leader with a passion for visual storytelling and a strong understanding of home décor trends to help us fulfill our mission of creating joy together. The Senior Manager of Creative Content will be creative, detail-oriented, and will collaborate closely with creative leads and cross-functional partners to create high-quality visual content that evolves our brand story and drives engagement with our target audience. 

This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the elevation of the visual identity of our home décor retail brand through creative leadership, strategic planning, and high-quality content production. This role requires experience in photography and videography for both print and digital channels, as well as knowledge of photo and video editing, production, styling, and branding. Key areas of responsibilities include the development of creative concepts and the ability to bring these ideas to life in photo, video, and memorable customer experiences.

This full-time position is a part of the Creative Team reporting to the VP, Creative Director and supports the Balsam Hill global brand. It is hands-on with leadership responsibilities including mentoring and directing studio managers, producers, photographers, videographers and editors, both for internal and external teams. This role is a brand ambassador and effectively collaborates with other Creative team leaders, merchants, marketing, vendors, and external production teams.

This role is expected to work in a hybrid model, which currently includes Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday in our Redwood City or Burlingame offices as well as additional time on location for shoots throughout the year. 

What you’ll do:

Creative Leadership and Content Development: 

  • Collaborate with creative leads to develop and maintain a clear and compelling creative vision for the photo and video content produced by the studio
  • Introduce holistic storytelling strategies that support business initiatives across multiple mediums including print and digital 
  • Partner with marketing and eCommerce teams to develop comprehensive content strategies that support product launches, promotions, campaigns and brand storytelling 
  • Introduce new concepts and ideas through swipes and storyboard development
  • Bring creative vision to life by overseeing creative development of media productions from concept through execution 
  • Work with external talent to develop photo and video style guides 
  • Stay updated on current home décor trends, photography techniques and video production styles to ensure the studio’s work is fresh and relevant 
  • Maintain an intimate understanding of the customer and their journey throughout every touchpoint to create impact and build loyalty
  • Work closely with art directors, photographers, videographers and stylists to ensure work is high-quality, inspiring and on-brand 
  • In partnership with our Global Brand Design team, brainstorm and contribute creative ideas for visual content that resonates with our target audience and drives engagement 

Production Management: 

  • Coordinate with Creative Operations Team to drive timelines and achieve milestones 
  • Collaborate with Creative Operations to develop new best practices for post-production processes and workflows 
  • Optimize budget to ensure efficiency and efficacy of all work produced and be accountable for budget reporting to Creative Ops team 
  • Partner with producers to oversee high level scheduling and freelance hires 
  • Develop vision for building a best-in-class media studio and partner with Studio Manager to build out a roadmap for executing upgrades 
  • Ensure that team is delivering on postproduction needs that align with brand standards and advise on asset management and workflows 
  • Negotiate contracts and manage relationships with external vendors and freelancers 
  • Manage and track asset usage rights, including negotiating permissions, monitoring expiration dates, and educating teams on compliance requirements to ensure legal and proper use of all assets 

Team Leadership: 

  • Lead, mentor and inspire a team that includes producers, studio management and post-production artists 
  • Display leadership and inspire teams to develop compelling and meaningful work by fostering creative exploration, collaboration and innovation
  • Guide direct reports and functional team members by identifying opportunities for growth, leveraging team strengths, and developing members toward organizational effectiveness. 

Qualifications

What you bring to the table:

  • Knowledge and experience with both the technical and creative side of media production 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Design or equivalent work experience
  • 10+ years of experience with consumer brands, campaigns, and photo production
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)
  • Online portfolio displaying exceptional strategic, conceptual, and visual design
  • Deep knowledge of media production and best practices
  • Ability to respond and give productive feedback
  • Flexible and adapts to the changing needs of the business
  • Support process, proactively identifying challenges and fostering actionable solutions
  • Excellence in a deadline-driven environment with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Highly self-motivated, with excellent communication skills, conflict resolution, and negotiation skills
  • Familiarity with Ecommerce and digital marketing trends

The base pay range for this position is: $152,000 to $183,000. Where an individual falls within that range will vary based on several factors including geographic location and may vary depending on candidate qualifications and experience, applicable skills, and other job-related factors. We benchmark our pay ranges against current external data sources and regularly review compensation for our team members.
