The Role

About Redwood Materials

Redwood Materials was founded in 2017 to create a circular supply chain for electric vehicles and clean energy products, making them more sustainable and driving down the cost for batteries. We’re doing this by developing and deploying new technologies to increase the scope and scale of recycled and sustainable materials in the global battery supply chain.

Senior Manager, Controls Engineering

We are seeking leader who can bring a novel, modern, and innovative blend of state-of-the-art software and traditional industrial controls to our industrial process plants.

This role requires a strategic leader who is excited to develop a fresh approach to factory automation and collaborate with mechanical, chemical, and electrical teams to bring it to life in our plants.

 Responsibilities include:

  • Lead the strategy for design, implementation, operation, and optimization of Redwood’s automated process control systems
  • Build a strong team and culture of continuous improvement through novel technological approaches and data driven engineering
  • Architect and oversee implementation of cutting-edge automation systems, using a thoughtful blend of custom software and traditional industrial controls
  • Collaborate with production, maintenance, and engineering teams to identify opportunities to improve or introduce new automation opportunities, aimed at optimizing manufacturing operations or creating new capabilities
  • Lead the development and implementation of new automation technologies while ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety regulations
  • Empower engineers and operators with aesthetically simple interfaces, robust data models, and the right tools to make quick, sound decisions

 Desired Qualifications

  • Strong experience controlling physical processes using both traditional industrial automation (PLC, DCS) systems as well as embedded systems (e.g. real time industrial PCs or DSPs)
  • Strong understanding of control theory and experience applying it practically to process control systems
  • Strong familiarity with modern software workflows, and an excitement to bring their core advantages (e.g. regression testing + version control) to an industrial setting
  • Understanding of mechanical, electrical, and thermodynamics first principles and fundamentals
  • Strong understanding of computer science fundamentals in the context of industrial hardware
  • Eagerness to oversee complex control system designs
  • Minimum 10 years of factory automation, with at least 5 years in a leadership role
  • Working knowledge of industrial automation protocols and safety systems
  • A passion for sustainability and making the world a better place!
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in electrical engineering, chemical engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Science or a related field
  • Hands-on attitude, with a willingness to contribute at all levels

The position is full-time. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
