Role Summary

The Senior Manager, Communications is a high-impact role responsible for building Renew Home's external voice. You'll own every external-facing channel — partner announcements, press releases, media events, podcasts, executive interviews, and social media — and bring media relationships to the table.

The ideal candidate has real working relationships across energy-industry trade press and tier-1 financial/business outlets. And someone who has helped navigate an early-stage or high-growth company through major milestones and knows firsthand how to build the external narrative and land the moment cleanly.

You'll also serve as a strategic communications partner to our executive leadership team: proactively soliciting ELT perspectives, ambitiously seeking feedback, surfacing alignment and tension, and translating leadership input into a clear, cohesive strategy. You'll drive and execute that strategy while keeping stakeholders informed and able to weigh in at important junctures. Success requires building conviction around a point of view, integrating diverse perspectives without diluting the strategy, threading nuanced messages across audiences, and bringing leaders along so we show up externally with a consistent, compelling voice.

Just as important, we're looking for a communicator who leads with opportunity rather than caution — energized by ambitious storytelling and instinctive about finding the angle in every story. Our environment involves shifting priorities and approval timelines that don't always move quickly; we need someone who stays constructive and adaptable, treating a delay or changed plan as a chance to find a new approach. This is a role for a self-starter comfortable driving visibility and advocating for ambitious external opportunities.

What You Will Do

Lead media relations

  • Serve as the primary driver of press coverage across energy trade media and tier-1 financial/business outlets (WSJ, Bloomberg, FT, Reuters, CNBC, and the leading energy trades).
  • Bring existing relationships and keep them warm—this is a relationship-first role.

Lead announcements and executive visibility

  • Plan and execute all partner announcements and press releases, from first draft through coverage and corrections.
  • Build and run an executive communications program for the CEO and other executive voices—securing interviews, speaking slots, and podcast appearances, and coaching leadership to perform well in them.
  • Consolidate key talking points and presentation outlines for all executive external appearances. Define lanes for company voices and track and secure opportunities to build company visibility and strategic messaging weighted toward priority messaging.
  • Identify and develop additional company spokespeople, shape their narratives, and pursue thought leadership opportunities that build leadership and brand momentum.

Build thought leadership and brand presence

  • Identify and pursue the platforms—hosted, guested, or partnered podcasts and events—that build Renew Home's authority in the energy and smart home space.
  • Own strategy for the company's external social channels, ensuring consistency with the broader narrative.

Lead through milestones and moments

  • Lead communications strategy for significant company milestones and growth moments working closely with executive leadership for alignment and feedback to build the external narrative ahead of it.
  • Closely align with company leadership on upcoming milestones to determine how and when to go big publicly.

Manage crisis communications

  • Develop and execute crisis communications plans and prep company spokespeople.
  • Keep the broader communications posture forward-looking and confident rather than defensive.

Partner cross-functionally

  • Align with executive leadership and key senior stakeholders to develop and refine all external communications.
  • Work closely with go-to-market, product, policy, legal, and data teams to keep the external narrative aligned with the business objectives.
  • Establish and meet measurable KPIs to track the effectiveness of external communications strategy.

Requirements
  • 7+ years of communications experience, with meaningful energy-sector experience.
  • Strong existing relationships with energy trade press and tier-1 financial/business journalists, ability to speak to specific reporters and outlets, not just categories of coverage.
  • A strong B2B editorial mindset
  • Demonstrated experience helping an early-stage or high-growth company navigate major growth milestones and communicate it externally.
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguity, adapts quickly when approvals are delayed or plans change without losing momentum.
  • Exceptional writing and spokesperson skills, comfortable being coached, and comfortable coaching others.
  • A demonstrated bias toward proactive storytelling with a clear eye for risk management.
  • Experience building a communications function and managing agency support.
  • Exceptional crisis communication skills: rapid response, message development, stakeholder management and balanced with an instinct for staying on offense.
  • Ability to work closely with go-to-market, brand, product, policy, strategy, operations and data analytics to craft a compelling narrative for our company and mission.
  • Team-builder with a collaborative, high-energy leadership style; leads by example and creates an inclusive environment.
  • Good judgment and attention to detail, particularly in confidential and high-pressure situations.
  • Intellectual curiosity, self-motivation, resourcefulness, integrity, and genuine enthusiasm for building something new.
  • Low ego, highly collaborative, enjoys jamming with teammates and iterating in the open.
  • Experience working with remote, distributed teams across time zones.
