About the Role
Sr. Manager, AML Advisory, with support and guidance from the Chief Anti-Money Laundering Officer of Capital One, serves as the compliance advisor and partner for our Canadian line-of-business (LOB) teams. Working alongside the AML Advisory team, the Sr. Manager, AML Advisory:
  • Serves as a Point of Contact (POC) and trusted AML advisory partner for Canada LOB initiatives, providing clear, risk-informed guidance to business leaders, product managers and operations teams;
  • Works independently, initiates actions and completes tasks with limited direction;
  • Thinks outside the box, sets and challenges the broader agenda and demonstrates a possibilities mindset;
  • Is comfortable making risk-based decisions that align with policy and risk appetite with minimal support; understands when escalations to various levels of leadership are required for support, buy-in or strategic decisions;
  • Has confident and concise communication skills, is able to tailor messages for specific outcomes, communicates to peers, managers, customers and stakeholders (outside group, department or organization) to prompt action;
  • Has a strong sense of responsibility, accountability and is well-organized;
  • Consistently demonstrates judgment, influence and champions diversity of thought

Your Responsibilities:
  • Execute and operationalize AML policies and procedures in a way that enables the business to have a competitive advantage and supports the culture of disruption and possibilities mindset.
  • Inform the development of the CAMLO Strategic Plan by identifying compliance, process and technology enhancement opportunities
  • Support the engagement model between Canada AML Advisory and partners (Canada LOB, enterprise AML) to ensure consistency, visibility and support for the Canada AML Program
  • Maintain and utilize a network of internal and industry peers
  • Evaluate risks and process deficiencies and work with the Business Leadership Teams to improve risk management and compliance framework with a customer-centric focus
  • Oversee day-to-day Canada AML activities related to control effectiveness, reporting and regulatory assessments
  • Identify emerging risks and proactively drive AML Program enhancements
  • Lead the development and delivery of in-person training and presentations to business and functional partners; support investments in 1LOD
  • Support the strategic direction, operationalization and control effectiveness of Customer Due Diligence, Know Your Customer and ongoing monitoring processes
  • Support Internal Audits, Regulatory Engagements, and other effectiveness reviews
  • Support reporting obligations for the Canada AML function, including preparing and analyzing results for of various reports, highlighting emerging trends and attending various forums on behalf of the Canada AML Program
  • Make recommendations to the Chief Anti-Money Laundering Officer and Chief Compliance/Chief Risk Officer on process and control risks, emerging trends on the Canada portfolio and other vulnerabilities identified during day-to-day operations of the AML program.
  • Acts as Subject Matter Expert (SME) to senior stakeholders and /or other team members on the Legal & Compliance Team.
  • Conduct independent reviews of historical frameworks and program decisions to ensure consistent risk tolerance and decision-making over time
  • Oversee and support internal controls effectiveness and governance program
  • Any other activities (as needed)

Basic Qualifications:
  • 8 years of progressive in AML advisory or risk experience and CAMS designation
  • Expertise of AML and Sanctions regulations, risks, and typologies
  • Preferred experience in AML in Canadian regulated financial institution
  • Advanced knowledge of credit card and payment products is strongly preferred
  • Proven track record executing and approving end-to-end AML risk assessments, including product-based risk assessments, trigger events and new initiatives
  • In-depth knowledge of the laws applicable to money laundering, including the Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Act and supporting Regulations
  • Familiarity with the capabilities of analytical software tools, data analysis methods and reporting techniques, eGRC systems, KYC tools and other tools used for AML purposes

Preferred Qualifications:
  • University degree/college diploma or equivalent
  • Sound understanding of industry trends and emerging risks
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must be a self-starter, flexible, innovative, adaptive and agile. Ability to respond rapidly to stakeholder concerns and questions
  • Handle ambiguity and ground decisions in analytics and common sense. Make complex decisions and/or lead others to make decisions requiring consideration of multiple factors. Anticipates and mitigates risk
  • Proven ability to set goals and priorities, deal with ambiguity, complete complex work on short timelines, routinely communicate progress towards results objectives.
  • Encourages the immediate and broader teams to live the company values and integrate them into their work and communication; demonstrated ability to influence business partners, technology leaders and product developers, translating complex legal/compliance needs into pragmatic operational workflows
  • Ability to build sustainable working relationships and influence outcomes

The expected annual salary range for this position is $151,800 to $173,300. This role is also eligible to earn performance-based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es). Incentives could be discretionary or non-discretionary depending on the plan.
