About the Role

Our client is looking for a hands-on, strategic Senior Manager of Accounting to lead and scale their accounting function as they continue their rapid growth. This is an opportunity to build processes, implement best-in-class financial systems, and establish a strong foundation for the company's next stage of growth. Reporting to the Head of Finance, you'll oversee day-to-day accounting operations while partnering cross-functionally to improve financial reporting, operational efficiency, and internal controls.

The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced startup environment, enjoys building from the ground up, and is excited about leveraging AI and automation to modernize finance operations.

The team works fully in-person, between the Palo Alto and San Francisco offices. The organization is dedicated to solving technical and creative problems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and monthly close.

  • Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, including maintaining the close calendar and ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting in accordance with U.S. GAAP.

  • Perform monthly flux and variance analysis to explain financial results and identify trends.

  • Establish, document, and implement accounting policies, internal controls, and scalable financial processes.

  • Experience with the setup and management of international subsidiaries and operations, foreign currency translation, consolidations, and intercompany accounting

  • Support equity administration and stock-based compensation accounting.

  • Ensure timely billing and accuracy of invoicing for all revenue and proper accounting treatment as per the company policy on revenue recognition.

  • Analyze customer contracts, establish and maintain a process to monitor and report revenue recognition in accordance with GAAP.

  • Develop, maintain, and document accounting policies for sales commissions, including capitalization, amortization, reconciliations, and month-end close activities to ensure compliance with ASC 340.

  • Manage and reconcile deferred revenue schedules to the general ledger on a monthly basis.

  • Lead or support the implementation and optimization of accounting systems and financial technology solutions.

  • Manage relationships with external auditors, tax advisors, payroll providers, and other third-party partners.

  • Collaborate closely with leaders across the organization to support company initiatives and improve cross-functional processes.

  • Evaluate opportunities to automate and streamline accounting workflows using AI-enabled tools and technology.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

  • CPA strongly preferred.

  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including public accounting and industry experience.

  • Big Four public accounting audit experience required.

  • Experience working in venture-backed, high-growth startup environments is required.

  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls, including revenue recognition (ASC 606) and commissions (ASC 340).

  • Experience managing the monthly close process and owning the general ledger.

  • Experience with cap table management and equity accounting is preferred.

  • Experience implementing or optimizing accounting systems such as Rillet, Campfire, or similar financial platforms.

  • Experience with QuickBooks; familiarity with Rippling is a plus.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build trusted relationships across all levels of the organization.

  • Prior people management experience is a plus but not required.

We seek like-minded individuals who share our passion for applying science, creativity, and consistency to big and complex problems with equally big outcomes. These are our values:

  • Own customer impact: It’s on us to ensure real-world outcomes for our customers.

  • Obsess over craft: Perfect every detail because quality compounds.

  • Accelerate change: Ship fast, adapt faster, and move frontier ideas into production.

  • Create win-wins: Creatively turn trade-offs into upside.

  • Make high-conviction bets: Try and fail. But succeed an unfair amount.
