The Senior M365 Systems Administrator will be a key member of the IT Infrastructure team and serve as the primary owner of the company’s Microsoft 365 tenant. This role is responsible for the administration, security, and strategic evolution of the M365 environment, including Entra ID (Azure AD), Active Directory, Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint Online, and related services.

This position will work closely with our Azure-focused team member, security team, service desk, and broader company to ensure a secure, reliable, and well-governed hybrid environment spanning on-premises and cloud systems. The ideal candidate will strike a balance between hands-on technical expertise and forward-looking strategies, with a focus on continuous improvement.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary owner and administrator of the M365 tenant, including governance, configuration, and lifecycle management.
  • Administer and support Entra ID (Azure AD) and Active Directory in a hybrid environment, including identity synchronization, authentication, and access controls.
  • Manage and support Exchange Online (in coordination with Azure team members), Teams, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, and other M365 services.
  • Ensure security best practices are implemented and maintained, including MFA, Conditional Access, identity protection, and data governance.
  • Act as the Level 3 escalation point for complex M365 issues, working closely with the service desk and other IT teams to resolve incidents.
  • Lead root cause analysis and resolution of escalated issues related to identity, collaboration tools, and messaging systems.
  • Develop, document, and maintain standards, procedures, and configurations for the M365 environment.
  • Provide mentorship and training to service desk staff to expand Level 2 capabilities and reduce escalations.
  • Plan and execute strategic initiatives to improve the M365 environment, including security posture, system performance, and user experience.
  • Design and implement solutions leveraging M365 tools such as Teams, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Power Automate, Microsoft Forms, and Copilot.
  • Participate in cybersecurity-driven improvements, including audits, risk mitigation, and compliance initiatives.
  • Support integration between on-premises systems and cloud services within a hybrid IT environment.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to deliver solutions that improve productivity and collaboration.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and respond to critical incidents as needed.

The Right Candidate:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3–7 years of experience administering Microsoft 365 in a complex business environment supporting 1,000+ end users and multiple domains.
  • Strong expertise in Microsoft 365 services, including Entra ID (Azure AD), Exchange Online, Microsoft Teams, and SharePoint Online & OneDrive
  • Experience administering Active Directory in a hybrid (on-prem + cloud) environment.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 security best practices, including MFA and conditional access, identity and access management, and data protection and governance.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex M365 and identity-related issues.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise IT environments and service management concepts.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to balance operational support with strategic initiatives.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with M365 security and compliance tools (Purview, Defender, DLP, etc.).
  • Experience implementing or supporting Microsoft Copilot and automation tools (Power Automate).
  • Familiarity with PowerShell scripting for M365 administration and automation.
  • Experience with hybrid identity solutions (Azure AD Connect, federation).
  • Knowledge of IT security frameworks (CIS Controls, NIST, etc.).
  • Experience working in manufacturing or ERP-integrated environments.
  • Exposure to governance models and tenant optimization strategies
