You will be responsible for pitching, planning, and building location blockouts with a focus on melding narrative with compelling and multifaceted gameplay. A Senior Level Designer will be working in editor with existing meshes and tools, ensuring their cohesive placement and connection to other content within an open-world while collaborating across departments to create balancing and memorable encounters that will thrill our players.

Daily Responsibilities

  • Designing, prototyping, iterating on and polishing in-game levels, primarily on level geometry, but including enemy encounters and other gameplay elements, using our proprietary tools and Unreal Engine 5.
  • Crafting spaces where gameplay flow and visual composition form memorable experiences.
  • Developing and working creatively within predefined level metrics.
  • Working closely with the Lead Level Designer and other team members to ensure created levels contribute to and enhance both the gameplay and the game narrative.
  • Working with your lead to grow and mentor less experienced members of the Level Design team throughout the game’s development.
  • Proactively engaging in the exchange of feedback and ideas across multiple disciplines.

Qualifications

  • At least 7 years’ experience as a Level Designer or in a similar role.
  • Experience with Unreal Engine, and/or other 3D packages.
  • Deep knowledge of contemporary Action/RPG titles and broader visual arts, including cinema and architecture, to serve as reference points for developing and articulating original concepts.
  • Excellent understanding of level design fundamentals and the role of level design in the overall player experience.
  • Proactive problem-solving skills and an ability to effectively communicate solutions, while driving topics independently.
  • Ability to create map layouts on all stages, from simple drawings to fully functional levels in at least one of the existing game engines.
  • Ability to use all elements of the game world, including level geometry, props, texturing, lighting, sound and VFX to craft unique player experiences.
  • Thoughtfully considers varying perspectives when problem solving and has a base understanding of other discipline’s priorities outside of level design.
  • Excellent communication skills & proven ability to work within a team.

What We Do

CD PROJEKT RED is home to over 900 game-making professionals from all over the globe. We speak many different languages, but share one love — video games. The studio’s portfolio largely comprises The Witcher series of role-playing games, including 2015’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which received over 250 Game of the Year awards. In 2020, the studio released its most recent game: Cyberpunk 2077 — a first-person RPG set in a futuristic, high-tech world. Other notable releases include Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales, and GWENT: The Witcher Card Game — in which players create decks of witcher-world warriors and fight epic card battles with other people around the globe. Headquartered in Warsaw, Poland, CD PROJEKT RED has offices in Kraków and Wrocław, as well as in Los Angeles and Vancouver. The studio is part of the larger CD PROJEKT S.A. Capital Group, which also includes Spokko, a mobile-focused developer responsible for The Witcher: Monster Slayer, and The Molasses Flood, a development studio in Boston, which is currently working on a game based on one of CD PROJEKT RED’s IPs. As the company grows, the overall studio mission remains the same: we strive to create the best RPGs in the world, while always keeping gamers’ needs at the core.
