Job Description

Minor Hotels Australasia have a rare opportunity for a highly driven Senior Legal Counsel to join Minor Hotels' in-house legal team.

Based in our Brisbane CBD office and reporting to the Head of Legal, this senior role provides expert legal guidance in a fast-paced, national environment. This opportunity is ideal for a legal professional with property or hospitality experience, looking to advance their career with a global hotel group.

You will work closely with the Head of Legal to shape legal strategy, mentor the legal team, and handle complex legal matters. If you're eager to make a significant impact within a rapidly growing organisation, we encourage you to apply.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Providing comprehensive legal advice, recommendations, and support to key internal stakeholders, including the Owners Department, Property Division (70+ properties), Leadership Team, Executive Committee, Head of Legal, and Commercial Departments.
  • Managing legal matters by offering expert advice, preparing, and reviewing contracts and other legal documentation.
  • Keeping the Head of Legal fully informed of significant legal or compliance issues arising from ongoing work.
  • Drafting, negotiating, and reviewing corporate, sponsorship, software-related, and other commercial agreements, including hotel management and operational contracts.
  • Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating Hotel Management Agreements (HMAs), property leases, and associated documentation.
  • Supporting the legal team in managing agreements related to the acquisition or divestment of hotels, including purchase and sale agreements.
  • Preparing, renewing, and assigning MLR Agreements, leases, HMAs, and franchise agreements as required.
  • Providing expert advice on General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) compliance and privacy legislation.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role you will require the following: 

  • Tertiary qualification in Law or Law/Commerce.
  • Admission to practice as a solicitor in Queensland.
  • At least 6 years of post-admission experience, with demonstrated expertise in Property Law or Hotel Law highly regarded.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with executives, managers, staff, external counsel, and regulatory bodies in a professional and collaborative manner.
  • High-level proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and exceptional phone and computer skills.
  • Excellent planning and organizational abilities to manage competing priorities, work under pressure, and meet deadlines with a sense of urgency.

Skills Required

  • Tertiary qualification in Law or Law/Commerce
