This is a Hybrid role based out of our office located in Loveland, Colorado.

The Target Pay Range for this position is $180,000 - $220,000 annually. At Antech, pay decisions are determined using factors such as relevant job-related skills, experience, education, training and budget.

Job Purpose/Overview

The Senior Legal Counsel, North America is a commercial and generalist legal counsel for the North America Mars Science and Diagnostics business, reporting to the Assistant General Counsel, North America. The Senior Counsel, North America will be primarily responsible for Mars Science and Diagnostics commercial contracting process and implementation.

The successful candidate will be a business-minded, practical, strategic, and proactive legal partner to Mars Science and Diagnostic’s Sales, Commercial, Marketing, Finance, P&O, and Regulatory functions. Working in a highly collaborative manner with the broader Mars Science and Diagnostics and Mars Legal teams (e.g., Sustainability, Compliance, Marketing Properties, Intellectual Property, Corporate Development, and Privacy), the Senior Counsel is accountable for delivering holistic legal support to grow the business, manage legal risks, and protect the Mars Science and Diagnostics brands and reputation, while ensuring compliance with company policies and applicable laws.

The Senior Counsel will be a highly skilled lawyer with an excellent track record of creating collaborative relationships across a complex, matrixed organization in a fast-paced culture. The preferred candidate will demonstrate sufficient maturity and experience with the required degree of integrity to be a trusted advisor to senior leaders and operate with a high degree of autonomy.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support North American commercial and functional teams on strategic as well as a wide variety of day-to-day matters, including in sales and distribution, litigation, corporate governance, labor law, IP, privacy, and other business transactions.

  • Utilize a business and strategic mindset to recommend legal solutions that unlock growth opportunities and meet core business objectives.

  • Effectively assess and balance risks and opportunities to manage risks intelligently and influence business decision-making.

  • Partner with the Mars Compliance and Privacy legal teams, and Mars Global Services legal resources, to secure the needed support and expertise in connection with technology and personal data collection, processing and use.

  • Collaborate and partner with the regional and local cross-segment Legal counterparts across Mars, Incorporated to ensure a consistent and aligned “One Mars” approach on key matters and issues.

  • Effectively and efficiently manage outside counsel and legal budgets.

Education and Experience

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school with 8+ years of legal experience required. Ideally, corporate, commercial, litigation and transaction experience in both a well-respected law firm and in the legal department of a successful, complex, growth company preferred.

  • Must be licensed to practice law in at least one US state.

  • Broad-based legal experience supporting complex organizations, including drafting and negotiating a variety of commercial agreements and managing litigation, with a solid foundational understanding of the associated regulatory environment and relevant commercial laws.

  • Experience providing effective counsel to senior business leaders is preferred.

  • Ability to travel if necessary.

Working Conditions

The associate is regularly required to apply manual dexterity, including hand/wrist flexibility, for computer keyboarding. The associate frequently is required to sit for extended periods of time, stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The associate is frequently required to hear and speak in order to use the telephone, make presentations and communicate with people in an office environment. The associate is occasionally required to sit and stoop, bend, kneel, or crouch. The associate must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.

The associate will primarily work in a typical office environment including use of cubicles, computers and overhead lighting. Temperature extremes will be minimal to nonexistent. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The associate will be required to use a computer, spreadsheets, data base management, email, and the Internet. The associate is frequently required to use a calculator; fax, copy machine, and phone system. The associate must occasionally use media equipment such as an overhead projector, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Teams.
