Job Description:
BeiGene is a global oncology company that was built differently to deliver innovative medicines faster, more equitably and affordably around the world. Likewise, BeiGene’s Legal and Compliance is building a team based on excellence, collaboration, and ongoing development to support BeiGene’s mission. Every member of BeiGene’s Legal and Compliance team plays a critical role.
We are seeking an experienced biotechnology/pharmaceutical commercial law attorney to provide legal support, counseling, and strategic guidance on commercial and regulatory matters for BeiGene’s medicines in Japan.
This role will also be expected to work closely with our in-house attorneys and compliance colleagues in other regions to ensure global coordination of legal services.
Responsibilities:
•Provide strategic guidance and support to the General Manager of Japan and the senior management team.
•Provide sound, efficient and effective legal advice and services to all the functions working for the Japanese business.
•Support new product/project launches in Japan,
•Reviewing, drafting, advising on and negotiating complex agreements.
•Localizing and developing contract templates
•Advising the business on any changes in laws and regulations and cooperating with the relevant functions to take necessary actions.
•Provide advice and guidance on healthcare laws and regulations applicable to the commercialization of BeiGene’s medicines in Japan. Some of the areas of responsibility will be: medical affairs, commercial, market access, trade operations, marketing, regulatory, distribution of product, corporate affairs, patient safety, QA, finance, human resources and employment relations issues.
•Review and provide guidance on a wide range of promotional and non-promotional materials, including branded promotional materials, disease education/disease awareness campaigns, scientific communications, speaker programs, patient education materials, grants and sponsorships, training materials, and reprint and publications plans.
•Review and advise on healthcare regulatory matters in BeiGene’s external communications, such as scientific journal articles, abstracts, presentations at medical conferences, press releases, websites, social media, and investor presentations, and participate in internal and external working groups such as trade associations and government affairs activities.
•Effective and efficient management and resolution of disputes/litigations.
•Sets appropriate priorities with business partners and delivers results withing the established timelines.
•Assist with the development and implementation of policies and procedures.
•Supervising external counsel and monitoring fees.
Qualification Required:
Other Qualifications and Experience:
•Qualified Japanese Lawyer (admitted to Japanese bar).
•Strong interpersonal and stakeholders’ engagement skills, analytical and organizational skills.
•Thrive under pressure and can handle multi-tasks efficiently.
•Strong command of relevant healthcare laws, regulations, guidance, industry codes, and enforcement trends in the Japanese market, in the APAC markets will be a plus.
•Ability to manage and serve a wide range of client groups by recognizing and responding quickly and pragmatically to urgent situations and competing demands.
•High level of integrity and honesty.
•Excellent organizational skills and problem-solving capabilities.
•Ability to make risk-based judgements and provide clear and concise practical, solution-orientated guidance on complex matters.
•Confidence and presence to advise clients at all levels with limited oversight.
•Commitment to being a team player with the desire to be helpful in all areas.
•Fluent written and oral skills in Japanese and English.
•Exceptional and demonstrated written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills in both one-on-one and group settings.
