Data is one of the enabling pillars of Bupa's strategy and the effective management of privacy risk is key to the strength of this pillar. The BGIUK Legal Team is recruiting a Senior Legal Counsel- Data Protection and Digital to provide expert advice to our businesses and ensure the effective governance of data protection and digital legal risk across Bupa.
This role requires significant knowledge and experience of the key data protection issues and digital regulation impacting the insurance and healthcare sectors. The right candidate will be able to draw on a solid foundation of subject matter expertise, augmented by the ability to engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders. The right candidate will be highly commercial and business aware and able to place specific data protection and digital legal issues within a wider commercial and regulatory context, and as part of an innovative digital transformation agenda.
The role will report to the Legal Director- Data and Technology
You'll help us make health happen through:
- Providing expert, commercially focused advice on a wide range of strategically important data protection and digital legal and compliance matters
- Designing and embedding a 'one stop shop' for legal input into our digital products, ensuring the business have access to high quality and integrated legal advice to support our digital transformation
- Delivering work needed to meet requirements under the Privacy Oversight Control Framework.
- Influencing and building strong relationships with key senior stakeholders including General Managers, Business Information Security Officers and Heads of Marketing, IT, Customer Services and Risk and Compliance.
- Shaping and embedding compliant and effective solutions to complex strategic privacy issues, including data sharing and data use guideline
- Maintain knowledge of applicable legal and regulatory requirements and monitoring to ensure organisational adaptation and compliance.
Key Skills needed for this role:
- A qualified solicitor with in-depth and extensive specialist knowledge of data protection laws and digital regulation
- Professional Privacy Certification from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (e.g., CIPP/E, CIPP/M) or equivalent (desirable).
- Experience of working in a healthcare and/ or Insurance environment (desirable)
- Strong legal research skills.
- International privacy experience
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills including the ability to communicate complex issues clearly and simply to an audience with different skills and levels of understanding of privacy and digital regulation
