We are looking for a Senior Lead Software Engineer to join our new Rowan Patents team at Clarivate. In this role, you will be designing, developing, coding and customizing software applications from product conception to end user interface. You will be responsible for analyzing and understanding customer requirements and preferences, incorporating these into the design and development process.
About you – experience, education, skills, and accomplishments

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in computer science, software engineering, or a related field

7+ years of experience as a Software Engineer

3+ year of experience with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
It would be great if you also had…

Experience with Ember.js, Electron.js, CKEditor 5, TypeScript, SCSS, Python & Django, Terraform, and .NET

Intellectual property knowledge, specifically patents

Experience with the patent lifecycle – disclosing inventions, reviewing patent drafts, responding to office actions, etc

Experience with Microsoft’s OOXML format

Knowledge of Microsoft’s OLE format
-
Experience with generative AI prompting strategies, ideally when using smaller models
What will you be doing in this role?

Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code in accordance with coding standards

Review other code to ensure clean, efficient, and maintainable code

Define architecture of software solution

Suggest alternative methodologies or techniques to achieving desired results

Develop and maintain understanding of software development lifecycle and delivery methodology

Maintain knowledge of technical advances and evaluates new hardware/software for company use

Automate tests and unit tests all assigned applications

Participates as a team member on various engineering projects and may lead small projects

Implements software for specifications of high complexity for limited scale systems, or medium to high complexity for large-scale systems.

Implement design changes to improve quality, performance, cost reduction, and standardization through analysis of designs and problem-solving techniques.

Respond to direct or indirect customer inquiries regarding function and design and attends customer meetings.

Design and implement alternative methodologies or techniques to achieving desired results.

Provide guidance for new procedures as needed for the continuing development of high quality systems

Provide technical training to other team members

Participate in the creation, implementation and administration of departmental policies, procedures, and work instructions

Writes application technical documentation

Rowan Patents, a part of Clarivate, joined the company in 2024. Prior to the acquisition, the core engineering team worked together for 10 years as a startup. Rowan Patents focuses on AI-enabled solutions designed for patent preparation and prosecution, specially designed for patent practitioners to establish and protect patents more effectively. This enables Clarivate to extend its workflow automation solutions beyond its market-leading IP management and intelligence capabilities, delivering new solutions to support patent preparation, filing and prosecution.
Hours of Work

This is a full-time position, primarily working core business hours in PST, with flexibility to adjust to various global time zones as needed.

This is a hybrid role working 1-2 days a week in our Seattle, Washington office
Compensation - US Only
The expected base salary for this position is a base salary of $130,000-178,000 USD per year with eligibility for bonus earnings. Individual pay is based upon experience, education, skill and ability, expertise, and relevant factors. In addition to a competitive remuneration package, you will be eligible to participate in a benefits package that includes medical, dental, prescription drug, life insurance, 401k with match, long term disability coverage, vacation, sick time, volunteer time, discount programs, and many more.
