The Role
Lead architecture and delivery of large-scale utility/AMI platforms. Own solution and database architecture, design microservices, tune Elasticsearch and PostgreSQL at scale, design messaging with RabbitMQ/Kafka, define Azure/AKS deployments, drive containerization and CI/CD, conduct code reviews, mentor engineers, remediate security findings, and collaborate with client stakeholders to resolve production issues.
Summary Generated by Built In
We are looking for a Team Lead / Architect to drive design and delivery of large-scale smart metering
and utility platforms (HES, MDM, WFM, GIS, SSO) deployed across multiple enterprise client
engagements, operating at production scales of 3.8M+ meters with 10M+ in planning. This role owns
technical architecture, design documentation, and mentors a team of engineers delivering
high-throughput, high-availability systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end solution architecture for utility/AMI platform modules, from design through
production deployment.
- Author formal design documents, API reference documents, and ARB submissions for client and
internal stakeholders.
- Design and review microservices architecture, ensuring scalability, fault tolerance, and clean domain
boundaries.
- Apply appropriate design patterns to solve high-throughput, high-availability problems at billion-row
data scale.
- Lead database architecture decisions for PostgreSQL at scale (partitioning, HA via Patroni,
connection pooling via PgBouncer).
- Drive messaging architecture using RabbitMQ and Kafka for event-driven and high-volume telemetry
pipelines.
- Architect and tune Elasticsearch for search, logging, or analytics use cases as required.
- Define and review Azure cloud architecture and deployment strategy (App Services, AKS, DevOps
pipelines, networking).
- Lead containerization and deployment strategy using Docker on Ubuntu, including zero-downtime.
(blue-green) deployments.
- Conduct code reviews, set engineering standards, and mentor a team of developers.
- Own security architecture review, including remediation of VAPT findings (RBAC, authentication,
encryption).
- Collaborate with client technical and executive stakeholders, translating requirements into technical
designs.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues across data pipelines, integrations, and
infrastructure.
Required Skills & Experience:
- 8+ years of overall software engineering experience, with demonstrated experience in technical
leadership or architecture roles.
- Strong hands-on expertise in .NET Core (.NET 8 preferred) and modern C# development.
- Proven experience designing and implementing Microservices architecture.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Azure (compute, storage, networking, DevOps/CI-CD).
- Hands-on experience with Elasticsearch for indexing, querying, and performance tuning.
- Deep expertise in PostgreSQL (16 preferred), including partitioning, replication/HA (Patroni),
pooling (PgBouncer), and PostGIS for geospatial data.
- Practical experience with RabbitMQ and Kafka for asynchronous and event-driven messaging at
scale.
- Strong grounding in software design patterns and ability to produce clear, implementable design
documents.
- Experience with reverse proxy/load balancing (Nginx, HAProxy) and containerization (Docker) on
Ubuntu/Linux.
- Familiarity with authentication/identity protocols (SSO, OAuth/OpenIddict, Entra ID) is a plus.
- Domain exposure to utility/AMI platforms — DLMS/COSEM meter protocols, HES/MDM systems,
NB-IoT/LoRaWAN connectivity — is a strong plus.
- Excellent communication skills; ability to write precise, client-facing technical documentation and
present architecture to both technical and executive audiences.
Requirements
Good to Have
- Experience with GIS-based systems (PostGIS, tile serving, geospatial APIs).
- Exposure to security hardening and VAPT remediation in production systems.
- Experience with multi-tenant SaaS architecture and key management (e.g., Vault/OpenBao).
