We're hiring a Senior/Lead Backend Engineer to build the core digital infrastructure for a next-generation energy company. You'll work closely with product across the full back-end and engineer backend systems that are second to none.
Responsibilities- Own systems end-to-end, from design and architecture through to production, with a high degree of autonomy as an individual contributor. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Building the inference layer for our AI workloads, serving millions of prompts per day across customer support and meter-reading OCR, and migrate workloads onto our own GPU infrastructure.
- Working on one of the core data challenges in energy: settlement data can arrive months after delivery, requiring systems that support continuous recalculation as new data becomes available.
- Developing our real-time billing engine, including per-customer ordering and idempotency, audit trails, and pricing based on half-hourly meter data.
- Building and extending our trading and hedging systems, covering forward markets, portfolio optimisation, and reconciliation against exchanges we trade on directly.

Requirements
- Demonstrable excellence as a software engineer
- 3+ years of software engineering experience, with requirements varying by role level, from individual contributor to lead.
- Proven ability to define and build complex systems
- Hands-on experience shipping highly available production systems
- Clear communication
- Bonus: infrastructure as code (e.g. AWS CDK); experience in the energy sector; experience shipping consumer-facing products
