Job Description

As a Senior Software Engineer at Rockwell Automation, you will participate in the design, implementation, and testing activities. These activities are for industry-leading Manufacturing Execution System (MES) products. We integrate the products with machine automation, control systems, and ERP software.

Assignments include participation in product requirements development, architectural design, coding and testing in all stages of the product software development lifecycle.

You will collaborate with multiple global cross-functional teams allowing you to become part of an international team that is committed to open and direct communications and respect.

You will report to your manager located in Karlsruhe, Germany and have a hybrid work schedule in Karlsruhe (Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays).

Your Responsibilities:

• Design and develop MES software products using enterprise Java technologies.
• Participate in the software quality process, including design and code review, and developing unit and functional tests.
• Report, analyze, debug and correct anomalies.
• Participate as a member of a team within the (SAFe) Agile Framework and promote Agile practices within the team.
• Perform detailed design and implementation of new software features within an existing product and architecture.

The Essentials - You Will Have:

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or engineering or equivalent knowledge.
• Minimum 5 years of related experience in software product development.
• Working knowledge of Java, specifically Enterprise Java EE.
• Experience with object-oriented analysis and design using common design patterns.
• Database design and programming skills (SQL Server, or Oracle).
• Experience using Git for version control.
• Willingness to gain domain-specific knowledge in MES or Pharma environments.
• Very good command of English.

The Preferred - You Might Also Have:

• Domain knowledge in MES, Pharma, or industrial automation.
• Experience with enterprise-level Java systems, including: multithreading and asynchronous processing, transaction handling, memory and class loading concepts.
• Experience in UI development with Java Swing clients and web technologies, e.g. Vaadin.
• Experience working in globally distributed teams.
• Proficiency in German.
• Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and software quality practices.
• Basic familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes.
