APM Terminals is seeking a highly skilled and business-oriented Senior IT/OT Engineer to lead the implementation, integration, operation, and continuous improvement of IT/OT technologies within the terminal environment.

As a key member of the IT/OT team, you will act as a trusted technology partner to Terminal Operations, Engineering, Automation, and other business stakeholders, translating operational and business requirements into secure, resilient, scalable, and fit-for-purpose technology solutions.

You will be responsible for managing the IT/OT technology landscape in alignment with APM Terminals and Maersk global standards, while ensuring that solutions meet terminal-specific operational requirements. You will proactively leverage best practices and proven solutions from other terminals, Hubs, and Regions to drive standardization, innovation, operational excellence, and value creation.

The role combines technical leadership, business partnership, project delivery, service management, vendor management, continuous improvement, and people leadership. You will also contribute to cost leadership by identifying opportunities to optimize technology investments, simplify the IT/OT landscape, and improve operational efficiency.

You will lead and support the Level 1 and Level 2 IT/OT engineering and shift teams, ensuring strong technical capability, operational discipline, effective collaboration, and high-quality service delivery.

You will be responsible for:
  • Manage and provide technical ownership of the IT/OT technology landscape within the assigned terminal domain.
  • Act as a key technology partner to Operations, Engineering, Automation, and other stakeholders, understanding business priorities and translating them into effective IT/OT solutions.
  • Lead the planning and execution of IT/OT upgrades, enhancements, lifecycle refreshes, and technology changes, ensuring alignment with global standards, change management practices, and IT service management processes.
  • Ensure technology changes are implemented with minimum disruption to critical terminal operations and appropriate operational readiness and rollback plans.
  • Own the IT/OT infrastructure lifecycle, proactively identifying obsolescence, capacity constraints, technology risks, and opportunities for modernization.
  • Ensure the integrity, availability, resilience, security, and interoperability of the IT/OT landscape and its associated systems and subsystems.
  • Ensure IT/OT infrastructure and technology solutions effectively support automation concepts, terminal processes, and port equipment requirements.
  • Lead incident, problem, and root cause management, ensuring timely resolution of critical IT/OT issues and implementation of sustainable corrective and preventive actions within agreed SLAs.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to improve system reliability, operational efficiency, service quality, and user experience.
  • Lead and support IT/OT projects from requirements definition and solution design through implementation, commissioning, transition, and stabilization.
  • Provide the appropriate IT/OT technical input and support for QA, testing, commissioning, and operational acceptance activities.
  • Ensure effective vendor and technology partner management, including performance management, technical governance, escalation, and service delivery.
  • Identify and implement cost optimization and cost-saving opportunities, leveraging standardization, technology rationalization, best practices, and fit-for-purpose solutions.
  • Promote agile ways of working, automation, innovation, and continuous improvement across the IT/OT organization.
  • Lead, coach, and develop the L1/L2 IT/OT engineering and shift teams, ensuring the right technical capabilities, coverage, and performance.
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing and collaboration between Terminal IT/OT, Global Technology, Regional/HUB teams, Engineering, Automation, Operations, Cybersecurity, and external partners.
  • Proactively assess technology risks, dependencies, and business impacts, escalating critical issues and providing clear recommendations to management.
  • Ensure effective 24x7 IT/OT operational support for mission-critical terminal systems and infrastructure.
What we are looking for:
  • Proven experience as a Senior IT/OT Engineer, IT/OT Infrastructure Engineer, Industrial Technology Engineer, or equivalent within a complex operational or industrial environment.
  • Strong understanding of IT/OT architecture, industrial networks, automation systems, PLC/controls, port equipment, Terminal Operating Systems, and related industrial infrastructure.
  • Experience working with mission-critical IT/OT environments where availability, resilience, and operational continuity are key priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex IT/OT infrastructure and system issues, including cross-domain incidents involving IT, OT, network, automation, and industrial systems.
  • Strong understanding of IT service management, incident/problem management, change management, project management, risk management, and vendor management.
  • Proven ability to translate business and operational requirements into technology solutions, balancing technical feasibility, business value, risk, and cost.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively with Operations, Engineering, Automation, IT, Cybersecurity, vendors, and senior management.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple activities, projects, priorities, and technical teams simultaneously.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a structured approach to RCA, risk assessment, troubleshooting, and decision-making.
  • Strong leadership capabilities, with proven ability to lead, coach, and develop technical engineering teams.
  • Demonstrated commercial awareness and ability to identify technology optimization and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining strong collaboration across cross-functional and multicultural teams.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical matters clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • A strong continuous improvement and ownership mindset, with a focus on operational excellence, standardization, reliability, and business value.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a 24x7 terminal environment and manage priorities during critical operational situations.
  • Experience in port terminals, logistics, manufacturing, industrial automation, or other mission-critical operational environments is highly desirable.
