About Vantage Data Centers

Vantage Data Centers powers, cools, protects and connects the technology of the world’s well-known hyperscalers, cloud providers and large enterprises. Developing and operating across North America, EMEA and Asia Pacific, Vantage has evolved data center design in innovative ways to deliver dramatic gains in reliability, efficiency and sustainability in flexible environments that can scale as quickly as the market demands.

Technology & Systems Department

The Technology & Systems department drives technological innovation for the company and advances the technology strategy to support global growth. This includes IT, Software Development, OT / Automation Systems, and business process improvement. At Vantage, we are very hands-on. In most cases, we specify, purchase, configure, and maintain all networking and server hardware. We also work closely with partner VARs to learn about the latest technology changes, so we can make informed purchase decisions. The Technology & Systems department participates in designing each of our new data center building’s networking infrastructure, including but not limited to diverse pathways connecting to carriers, meet-me room hosting (rack, cabs, ladders, cross-connect panels…), wireless AP coverage, etc.

We rely on extreme collaboration with Sales, Construction, Operations, and Corporate Functions to drive simplification and establish global standards with continuous improvement and speed to value. We are working to build a reliable, scalable, sustainable, and secure technology roadmap/landscape that enables us to serve our customers and employees better and be the partner of choice. Our focus is on speed to value with financial and execution discipline.

Position Overview

The IT Infrastructure Engineer is a hands-on technical leader responsible for designing, deploying, and supporting the IT infrastructure that underpins Vantage Data Centers' mission-critical operations across North America. Partnering closely with Construction, Operations, and Engineering teams, this role delivers fault-tolerant network, compute, and virtualization solutions for new builds and existing sites, ensuring every facility comes online on time, on budget, and to Vantage's standards for reliability, security, and performance. The engineer provides professional technical support to internal and external customers, resolves complex hardware and software issues, and operates in alignment with company policies, ITIL-based processes, and predefined SLAs.

Essential Job Functions

  • Serve as the domain expert representing the Mission Critical Operations organization on all data center construction and expansion projects.

  • Design, implement, and maintain fault-tolerant, highly available IT networks leveraging Cisco, Fortinet, and Arista platforms, including routing, switching, firewalls, segmentation, and software-defined networking (SDN) leaf-spine fabrics.

  • Architect, build, and harden virtualization platforms (VMware vSphere/ESXi) along with Windows and Linux server environments to support mission-critical workloads.

  • Coordinate with Construction Project Managers and General Contractors to maintain schedule commitments, communicate progress, and resolve site readiness blockers.

  • Work under limited supervision, both independently and within a team environment.

  • Manage multiple concurrent one-time and ongoing projects, balancing competing priorities while meeting quality, cost, and schedule targets.

  • Respond to safety, security, and emergency situations; uphold a safe, secure, and compliant work environment at all times.

  • Apply sound judgment to organize workflow, adapt to shifting priorities, and make informed decisions in a dynamic operational environment.

  • Engage frequently with employees at all levels of the organization, as well as external vendors, partners, and customers, to drive aligned outcomes.

Duties

  • Provide professional mentorship and specialist advice to the business on systems and project matters, ensuring projects are initiated accurately and appropriate levels of governance are applied throughout the lifecycle.

  • Collaborate with internal partners and stakeholders to design and deliver technology solutions that align with project objectives, operational standards, and customer requirements.

  • Develop business cases, whole-life cost analyses, and feasibility proposals that frame investment vs. risk and align with business objectives.

  • Drive projects to stay within budget and schedule, identifying and planning the effective use of internal and external resources.

  • Manage incidents, problems, software defects, and change requests through ITIL-aligned processes, ensuring timely resolution and stakeholder communication.

  • Identify opportunities to evolve systems to meet business requirements, leveraging existing platform functionality or new development where appropriate.

  • Support the Senior Manager and Lead Engineer, Information Technology, in delivering services essential to the success of the business and the reliability of customer-facing operations.

  • Handle additional duties as assigned by Management.
