How you will make an impact:

The Senior IT Architect will play a crucial role in designing, implementing, and maintaining IT infrastructure and systems that support our R&D teams. This position requires a deep understanding of both IT architecture, Network and Security and the unique needs of medical device research and development, including software and hardware products.

Establish and maintain enterprise and/or domain level architecture through the stages of planning, design, execution, and operation. In doing so, the Architect also develops and promulgates the standards and practices necessary to realize and sustain systems in accordance with established architectural plans and designs.  In addition, the Architect provides expert consultation to inform strategic technology and system decisions as well as tactical decisions related to projects.  With that, the overarching goal of the Architect is to cultivate an IT ecosystem that is scalable, extensible, interoperable, adaptable to the business, and aligned with the strategic goals and objectives of the organization.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and Implement IT Solutions: Develop and implement IT solutions that support global R&D activities, ensuring scalability, security, and compliance with Edwards/industry standards. Work with the global IT team to leverage standard service offerings. 

  • Collaborate with R&D Teams: Work closely with global R&D teams to understand their needs and provide IT solutions that enhance their productivity and innovation. 

  • Cloud Infrastructure Architecture 

  • Work with infrastructure operations focusing on performance, observability, automation, and continuous improvement. 

  • In partnership with supporting teams, ensure high availability, performance, and cost optimization of cloud and hybrid environments. 

  • Collaborate with DevOps, security, and application teams to deliver seamless infrastructure capabilities. 

  • Work with customers and internal teams to create Proof of Concept (POCs), pilots, and Minimum Viable Products (MVPs) that demonstrate solutions designed for successful deployment and operationalization in AWS cloud. 

  • DevSecOps: Support the implementation of modern software pipelines in support of product initiatives, including embedded software devices. 

  • Maintain IT Infrastructure: Oversee the maintenance and optimization of IT systems, including servers, networks, and databases, to ensure seamless operation. 

  • Ensure Compliance: Ensure all IT systems comply with regulatory requirements and industry standards, including data security and privacy regulations. Drive remediation activities where Information Security risks have been identified. 

  • R&D Lab Data Security and Compliance 

  • Ensuring R&D Lab Equipment is within the boundaries of Lab VLAN and firewall rules. Ensure proper data backup and user access management is maintained on all Lab Equipment. Managing and supporting IT requests pertaining to bespoke R&D Lab infrastructure 

  • Leads RASP initiatives (Reliability, Availability, Scalability, Performance) 

  • Project Management: Lead IT projects from conception to completion, including planning, execution, and monitoring. 

  • Troubleshoot and Resolve Issues: Provide technical support and resolve IT-related issues promptly to minimize downtime and disruption.

  • Continuous Improvement: Stay updated with the latest IT trends and technologies and implement improvements to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of IT systems. 

  • Israel Site Leadership: Serve as single point of contact for site leadership for all IT related matters beyond R&D. This will require building productive relationships with local leadership and IT colleagues to ensure business value delivery in a timely fashion.
     

What you’ll need (Required):

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Natural Sciences & Mathematics or a related discipline.

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in IT architecture, with at least 3 years supporting R&D teams in a medical device or similar environment.

  • 2 years experience of demonstrably solid performance in an architect role working with cross-functional teams (within IT and/or within the business) on enterprise-level or complex/novel system implementations Preferred

What else we look for (Preferred):

  • Technical Skills : Proficiency in IT infrastructure design, network management, database administration, DevSecOps, AWS Cloud infrastructure and cybersecurity.

  • Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with regulatory requirements for medical devices, including FDA and ISO standards.

  • Project Management: Strong project management skills with experience leading complex IT projects. 

  • Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. 

  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues efficiently. 

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills

  • Excellent documentation and communication skills and interpersonal relationship skills including negotiating and relationship management skills with ability to drive achievement of objectives and communicate to various levels of audience or to explain complex or technical matters in a manner suitable for non-technical audiences

  • Recognized as an expert in own area within the organization

  • Expert knowledge in at least discipline (e.g. Analysis, Design, Development, QA/QC, etc.)

  • Broad and deep technical knowledge – expertise in multiple aspects including hardware, software, applications, and systems engineering and QA/testing

  • Expert in developing detailed architecture models, design, executable plans and documentation

  • Knowledge of best practices related to IT governance, operations, and administration

  • Strict attention to detail

  • Ability to interact professionally with all organizational levels and proactively escalate issues to appropriate levels of management in the organization

  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast paced environment

  • Adhere to all company rules and requirements (e.g., pandemic protocols, Environmental Health & Safety rules) and take adequate control measures in preventing injuries to themselves and others as well as to the protection of environment and prevention of pollution under their span of influence/control

Preferred Skills:

  • Certifications in related disciplines and architecture frameworks. 

  • Strong understanding of cloud computing concepts and technologies. 

  • Experience managing hybrid environments with both cloud and on-premises infrastructure  

  • Experience with one or more major cloud platforms, AWS is required (AWS, Azure, GCP)

  • Knowledge of networking, security, and virtualization.  

  • Experience with cloud monitoring and logging tools. 

  • Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) 

  • Knowledge of DevOps practices and tools. 

  • Automate cloud infrastructure management and optimization using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools

  • Experience across cloud architecture, analytics, machine learning, generative AI and Cloud migrations.
