Summary
Ensure international tax compliance, accurate financial reporting of cross-border transactions, and alignment with global tax regulations. Maintain up-to-date knowledge on international tax developments and support the business in tax planning and risk management across jurisdictions, focusing on Maltese and European tax law. The role also includes responsibilities related to consolidated financial and tax reporting across group entities and reviewing and advising on company sales and acquisitions contracts from a tax perspective.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and file tax returns and documentation, including transfer pricing reports with outsourced consultants.
- Ensure compliance with Maltese, EU, and international tax regulations.
- Analyze tax implications of cross-border operations and advise management on tax-efficient structures.
- Liaise with external tax advisors and authorities on international tax matters.
- Assist in audits, both internal and external, related to tax issues.
- Monitor and interpret new international tax legislation, assessing its impact on the company.
- Support the development and implementation of tax policies and controls.
- Maintain accurate documentation and records for tax audits and statutory compliance purposes.
- Provide support in financial reporting related to taxes under IFRS.
- Assist in special projects related to mergers, acquisitions, and international expansion.
- Participate in the preparation and review of consolidated tax reports and financial statements for group entities.
- Ensure intercompany transactions are accurately documented and reflected in consolidated reports.
- Coordinate with finance teams in other jurisdictions to ensure timely and accurate tax consolidation and reporting.
- Review and provide tax-related input on company sales and acquisition contracts to identify risks, ensure compliance, and optimize tax outcomes.
Requirements
- Education: ☒ Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master’s or CPA/ACCA/CFA is an advantage)
- Specialization: ☒ Required – International Taxation, Finance, or Accounting
- Experience: ☒ Minimum 3-5 years of experience in international or corporate tax, preferably within a multinational company or Big Four firm
- Languages: ☒ English (mandatory), ☒ Maltese (preferred), ☒ Other European languages (advantageous)
- Software Knowledge: ☒ MS Office Suite, ☒ ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle), ☒ Tax compliance software
- Certifications: ☒ Professional tax/accounting certification preferred (e.g., ACCA, CPA, ADIT)
- Legislation Knowledge: Strong knowledge of Maltese tax laws, EU VAT directives, OECD guidelines, BEPS framework, and IFRS related to tax reporting
