The Senior Internal Auditor position is focused on executing internal audits, assessing internal controls, ensuring compliance, and identifying areas for process improvement within the third-party debt collections industry. The role emphasizes client service, risk management, and compliance with industry regulations while working closely with key stakeholders to drive efficiency and quality in audit practices.

Key Responsibilities

Audit Execution and Client Focus:

  • Lead and conduct internal audits to evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls, risk management practices, and compliance with applicable industry regulations (e.g., FDCPA, Regulation F, GLBA) and client contractual requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams to understand clients’ unique needs, ensuring audit coverage addresses both internal controls and contractual obligations effectively.
  • Assess operational risks, focusing on areas where improvements can enhance client relationships and compliance with debt collection industry standards.

Risk Management and Compliance:

  • Support the identification and evaluation of organizational and client-related risks, ensuring audit processes align with client expectations and regulatory standards.
  • Evaluate the adequacy of internal controls to mitigate client-specific and industry risks.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to management regarding the implementation of corrective actions and improvements in internal processes.

Internal Controls and Process Improvement:

  • Review business processes across departments and identify control weaknesses, proposing enhancements that streamline operations while ensuring client satisfaction and regulatory compliance.
  • Lead initiatives to improve internal controls, enhance operational efficiency and mitigate risk in line with the needs of clients in the debt collections sector.

Stakeholder Engagement and Reporting:

  • Communicate audit findings clearly to both internal teams and external clients, ensuring that results are actionable and aligned with company and client expectations.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to provide guidance on risk management and compliance, ensuring that audit outcomes are reflected in ongoing process improvements and client service enhancements.
  • Maintain open communication with internal departments to foster transparency and build long-term relationships through effective audit execution and reporting.

Audit Quality and Efficiency:

  • Ensure all audits are conducted in compliance with organizational policies and relevant industry regulations, focusing on the quality and timeliness of audit deliverables.
  • Perform periodic quality reviews of audit workpapers, reports, and documentation, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and alignment with client needs.

General Administrative Oversight:

  • Assist in managing audit timelines, resources, and schedules to ensure audits are completed efficiently, within budget, and in accordance with organizational and client expectations.
  • Maintain organized and well-documented audit files to support future reference and compliance audits.
  • Actively participate in team meetings and assist with mentoring the Internal Auditors.

Qualifications

Education:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. While a college degree is not mandatory, extensive experience in internal auditing is essential. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in conducting audits, with a focus on the third-party debt collections industry and client-facing roles.


Skills & Experience:

  • 2-5 years of experience in internal auditing, including experience in the debt collections industry or similar sectors.
  • Strong understanding of audit methodologies, internal controls, risk management, and compliance regulations (e.g., FDCPA, Regulation F, GLBA).
  • Experience managing or collaborating with clients, ensuring audits align with client needs, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency in audit software, data analytics tools, and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present findings to internal teams and clients effectively.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and implement practical solutions to complex audit issues.
