Faculty Full-time

Position Type: Full Time, on campus 40 hours per week

POSITION OVERVIEW

The School of Design at Dunwoody College seeks candidates in all areas of Architecture, Interior Architecture/Design, and Graphic/Experiential Design. Candidates with professional experience are highly encouraged to apply and must be capable of teaching at foundational and advanced-level design studios/courses. Candidates with expertise in industry software are encouraged to apply.

The opening is targeted at the level of Senior Instructor, but experienced candidates with outstanding credentials may be considered for Assistant Professor. Review of applications will begin immediately, and the position (s) will remain open until filled.

The instructor is responsible for excellence in teaching and contributing to the College's undergraduate educational mission. Dunwoody encourages innovation, diversity of teaching methods, and multidisciplinary collaborations with academic departments and units across the College. The College is especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the educational community.

The faculty member is expected to contribute to and support the College and the School of Design and connect with industry contacts. They will be expected to work with the College and the School of Design to further key strategic goals and develop initiatives that support students outside the classroom. Applicants are expected to work collaboratively across disciplines. The School of Design is committed to actively supporting new faculty development and initiatives, their teaching, and their commitment to design.

Primary Objective:

This faculty position is responsible for initiating the teaching and learning process for students. As a student-centered institution, Dunwoody expects faculty to teach, develop, and maintain relationships with the industry. The faculty member teaches and plans with innovation and uses diverse teaching methods and multidisciplinary collaborations with academic departments and units across the College.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES/FUNCTIONS

  • Facilitates learning activities so that students learn the principles, theory, skills, and work ethic necessary to become proficient for entry-level positions.
  • Creates a positive learning environment.
  • Monitors, assesses and advises learners on technical and academic progress and performance.
  • Uses current academic and industry practices in assigned courses of instruction.
  • Develops and updates lesson material and training aids, and maintains equipment within the assigned course of instruction.
  • Assists in the recruitment and placement of learners.
  • Leads the process of maintaining equipment and recommends new equipment purchases within the assigned program.
  • As a part of a team, designs and develops new curriculum within the assigned program.
  • Provides support, coaching, and guidance to faculty members.
  • Participates in industry and/or professional organizations in order to maintain and enhance program health and academic integrity.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A bachelor's degree in Architecture, Interior Architecture/Design, Graphic Design or related fields; OR
  • A bachelor's degree and 18 graduate credits in Architecture, Interior Architecture/Design, Graphic Design or related fields; OR
  • A master's degree in Architecture, Interior Architecture/Design, Graphic Design, or related fields OR
  • A BARCH or MARCH
  • 3+ more years of design and/or teaching experience

  • B.Arch. or M.Arch.
  • Three or more years of design and/or teaching experience
