The Position

The FinOps & Technical Enablement function within CS CoE P&O connects infrastructure consumption, financial visibility, governance maturity, and portfolio priorities to drive better decision-making across the ecosystem. As the organisation's landscape expands across cloud, on-premises, AI infrastructure, and shared scientific platforms, the team is evolving to deliver five core capabilities: infrastructure visibility, scalable governance for hybrid environments, financial economics (forecasting and attribution), investment prioritisation, and efficiency optimisation.

The Opportunity

The Senior Infrastructure Business Operations Manager is an individual contributor role within the xRED FinOps & Technical Enablement function of Computational Sciences Centre of Excellence Portfolio & Operations (CS CoE P&O). This role establishes and operates the business, financial, and governance mechanisms needed to support better infrastructure decision-making across cloud, on-premises, AI infrastructure, shared scientific platforms, and emerging computational environments.

The successful candidate will partner closely with R&D (i.e. architecture, engineering, and research), RDT, finance, and procurement to improve visibility, attribution, forecasting, showback, optimisation, and investment governance.

In this position you will:

  • Portfolio & Financial Operations: Support the execution, reporting, and continuous improvement of infrastructure forecasting, budgeting, showback, and financial planning activities to improve infrastructure financial visibility across cloud, on-premises, AI infrastructure, shared platforms, storage, and compute environments. Translate infrastructure usage, cost, ownership, and forecast data into decision-ready insights for leaders and technical teams, and partner with finance, portfolio, and technical teams to connect infrastructure demand with budget planning and portfolio priorities while developing infrastructure economic analyses, business cases, and decision-support materials for infrastructure investment and capacity planning discussions.

  • Hybrid Infrastructure Governance: Support the implementation and continuous improvement of cloud and on-premises attribution and showback methodologies to improve infrastructure ownership, accountability, and governance maturity across teams and platforms. Partner with scientists, software engineers, application owners, product owners, RDT, and infrastructure teams to strengthen ownership visibility, while contributing to governance models for AI infrastructure across cloud, on-premises, GPU environments, shared infrastructure, and emerging scientific computing platforms, and supporting the implementation of lightweight governance mechanisms that are practical, scalable, and usable by technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Capacity Planning & Infrastructure Visibility: Support compute capacity planning across cloud and on-premises environments to improve infrastructure ownership, accountability, and attribution visibility.

  • Optimisation: Partner with RDT, cloud providers, and technical teams to identify optimisation opportunities to support commitment planning, vendor engagement, and infrastructure cost optimisation activities, while supporting architecture and workload placement discussions by providing financial and operational insights.

  • Stakeholder Management: Build and maintain strong relationships across global stakeholder groups to facilitate alignment across R&D (i.e. architecture, engineering, and research), RDT, finance, and procurement, and support European stakeholder engagement and governance alignment activities. Translate complex infrastructure, financial, and governance topics into clear recommendations for leadership and operational teams while driving progress through influence, collaboration, and structured decision support in a highly matrixed environment.

Who You Are
  • You hold a Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).

  • You bring 8+ years of experience in infrastructure operations, FinOps, technology financial management, cloud economics, or portfolio operations.

  • You possess a strong track record of supporting budgeting, forecasting, cost attribution, showback frameworks, and infrastructure investment decisions.

  • You have deep analytical skills and a strong understanding of cloud/hybrid infrastructure economics, with the ability to turn complex usage and cost data into actionable recommendations.

  • You are familiar with cloud pricing models (Savings Plans, RIs), asset management, and cloud financial management tools like Cloudability.

  • You excel at leading through influence, navigating ambiguity, and driving alignment across complex matrix organisations with technical, finance, and business stakeholders.

  • You are a skilled communicator capable of working effectively across global teams, including collaborating regularly with US-based stakeholders in Pacific Time (PT).
