Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Instrumentation and Automation
Engineer to join our team, focusing on Oil & Gas projects. The successful
candidate will be responsible for leading the design, analysis, and
implementation of instrumentation and automation systems, ensuring that all
aspects are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with industry
standards and regulatory requirements. This role involves providing technical
leadership, mentoring junior engineers, and collaborating with
multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality engineering solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Design and Engineering:
- Lead the development of detailed instrumentation and automation designs for
Oil & Gas facilities, including:
- Instrumentation Systems: Selection and specification of field instruments,
control valves, transmitters, sensors, and analyzers.
- Automation Systems: Design and programming of control systems, including
Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Distributed Control Systems (DCS), and
Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems.
- Safety Systems: Design of Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and Emergency
Shutdown Systems (ESD) in compliance with IEC 61511 and other relevant
standards.
- Communication Networks: Design of industrial communication networks,
including Ethernet, Modbus, Profibus, and other protocols.
- Develop Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), loop diagrams, and
control schematics using CAD software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation
- Prepare technical specifications, design calculations, and construction
drawings.
- Conduct Functional Safety Assessments (FSA) and develop Safety Requirement
Specifications (SRS).
- Design and layout of cable trays, conduits, and cable routing for
instrumentation and control systems.
- Develop cable schedules and ensure proper segregation of power, control, and
instrumentation cables.
- Specify cable types and classes, including:
- Instrumentation Cables: Twisted pair, shielded, and armored cables.
- Control Cables: Multi-core, shielded, and unshielded cables.
- Power Cables: Low voltage and medium voltage cables.
- Create Material Take-Off (MTO) lists for cables, trays, and associated
accessories.
- Develop detailed layout drawings for instrument locations, junction boxes,
and control panels.
- Develop detailed hook-up drawings for the installation of field instruments,
including process connections, mounting details, and wiring.
- Create MTO lists for all instrumentation and control components, including:
- Field Instruments: Transmitters, sensors, and analyzers.
- Control Valves: Actuators, positioners, and accessories.
- Junction Boxes: Terminal blocks, glands, and enclosures.
- Control Panels: PLCs, DCS components, and HMI interfaces.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of MTO lists to support procurement and
construction activities.
4. Project Management:
- Manage instrumentation and automation projects from concept to completion, ensuring adherence to project schedules, budgets, and quality standards.
- Develop project plans, schedules, and resource allocations.
- Monitor project progress and provide regular updates to the Engineering Manager and project team.
- Coordinate with other engineering disciplines (e.g., electrical, mechanical, process) to ensure integrated project delivery.
5. Technical Leadership:
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
- Conduct design reviews, HAZOP (Hazard and Operability)
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Process Control Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in electrical engineering, preferably
within the Oil & Gas sector.
- Proficiency in electrical engineering design software (e.g., SP3D, AutoCAD,
Exilentia, Smart Plant Instumentation).
- Strong knowledge of industry codes and standards (e.g., NEC, IEEE, API).
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to travel to project sites as required.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with onshore Oil & Gas projects.
- Familiarity with hazardous area classifications and electrical safety standards.
- Experience with project management tools and software.
Skills Required
- Bachelor's degree in Process Control Engineering or related field
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in electrical engineering, preferably in Oil & Gas
- Proficiency in electrical engineering design software (e.g., SP3D, AutoCAD, Exilentia, Smart Plant Instrumentation)
- Proven experience in Project engineering of Concept, FEED, Detail Design and EPC Project
- Strong knowledge of industry codes and standards (e.g., NEC, IEEE, API)
