Position Summary:
The Senior Human Resources Generalist serves as a trusted advisor to employees and leadership, supporting a positive and compliant work environment aligned with organizational goals. This position is responsible for administering and advancing key human resources functions, including employee relations, performance management, compensation, leave and attendance, and employment law compliance. Acting as the Lead HR Generalist, this role provides coaching, training, and mentorship to HR Generalists and supports organization-wide HR initiatives.

Responsibilities:

General HR

  • Develops, implements, and communicates human resources policies and procedures in alignment with organizational objectives and legal requirements.
  • Provides guidance and support to employees and leadership regarding HR programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Participates in workforce planning, restructuring, and organizational change initiatives.

Compliance

  • Monitors federal, state and local employment laws and regulations and provides guidance to leadership to ensure organization compliance
  • Manages or coordinates required compliance activities, including EEO-1 reporting, affirmative action data collection, and workplace posting requirements.
  • Oversees and coordinates the administration of ADA, FMLA, WA Paid Family and Medical Leave (WAPFML), workers’ compensation, and other leave, accommodation, and attendance programs.
  • Conducts periodic audits of employee records and HR practices to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Processes unemployment claims and represents the organization at hearings when requested.
  • Tracks and documents completion of required employee and leadership training and other HR compliance-related requirements.

Employee Relations and Performance Management

  • Serves as a point of contact for employee relations matters, including workplace concerns, grievances, and conditions of employment.
  • Conducts and/or coordinates internal investigations and recommends appropriate resolutions.
  • Supports supervisors and managers with performance management activities, including goal setting, evaluations, feedback, performance improvement plans, and corrective action.
  • Elevates complex or sensitive employee relations issues and provides recommendations to the Manager and/or Director of Human Resources.

Compensation and Payroll Collaboration

  • Administers and monitors the organization’s compensation program and responds to compensation-related questions from employees and management.
  • Collaborates with the Payroll team to ensure accurate and timely distribution of wages, bonuses, and other financial benefits.

Lead HR Generalist Responsibilities

  • Trains, mentors, and supports HR staff in HR best practices, policy application, and effective employee management.
  • Models appropriate responses to employee relations issues and complex HR inquiries.

Systems, Administration, and Other Duties

  • Reviews employee data and approves HRIS transactions to ensure data integrity and reporting accuracy.
  • Participates in administrative staff meetings and serves on agency committees as requested.
  • Recommends improvements to HR policies, procedures, and processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Travels to agency locations as requested.
  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications

Job Requirements:
The following requirements are those that are normally required for performance of the Senior Human Resources Generalist position. Physical Requirements:
This position normally requires the physical demands of standing, walking, bending, lifting or performing other work requiring medium physical exertion, talking and hearing and adequate vision on a continuous basis to perform the jobs essential requirements. 

Non-Physical Requirements:

Education

  • Associate’s degree in Business, Communications, or related field; or high school diploma and professional HR certification (PHR or SHRM-CP) required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or a related field preferred

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of human resources experience, including at least 3 years in an HR generalist or HR business partner role required
  • Experience in a non-profit environment highly desired

Special Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion, integrity, and professionalism.
  • Strong working knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, including FMLA, ADA, workers’ compensation, employment eligibility and I-9s, and leave and accommodation laws.
  • Highest attention to detail with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to coach and support employees and management through complex, difficult, and emotionally sensitive situations.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Human Resource Information Systems
  • Proven experience applying performance management principles, including evaluations, goal setting, and employee development.

Licenses, Registration, Certification

  • Valid Washington State driver’s license and required minimum liability insurance
  • Must be deemed insurable as determined by Catholic Charities’ liability insurance provider

Employment is conditional upon:

  • Being cleared by criminal background check and fingerprinting when required

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm
Wage Range: $36.00-$40.00 per hour, depending on education & experience
